arrogant soccer fans don't help much
How is that being arrogant? He said he didn't let his kid play a sport because he personally didn't like it. He since clarified the statement and we're good. It would be the same if I didn't let my kid play baseball because I personally hated it.

On the offside rule, I've thought soccer could benefit having an offside line (similar to hockey) where an offside cannot be called once the ball passes a certain line. Before the ball passes that line, the offside call would be called as they are now. This would prevent both cherry picking and an unnecessary end to an attacking move deep in an opponent's territory.

if we just had 14-16 year olds going to academies, i SERIOUSLY doubt people would care
If there were a bunch of Bradenton academies around the country that offered good education and developed the true athletic potential of children, and they just so happened to be owned by a professional club, I think most Americans would buy into that.

This reminds me of Yugioh GX, where children go to academies to learn important stuff like how to play trading card games instead of stupid things like researching how to cure cancer

To be honest, I like the rule perfectly fine. I like that it forces players to play in tighter spaces and love to see attacking players utilize it to their advantage. However, I don't think that there is anything more annoying than when an attacking player is incorrectly ruled to be offside.

you have much more competition in regards to sports leagues and what not with the NBA, the NFL, the MLB, and the NHL all being the #1 league in the world of their respective sport
The main point. And I'm not at all convinced hockey is more popular than soccer in America anymore. The NHL is more popular than the MLS, but that's about it. There's a reason hockey is on NBC Sports.

I think when it comes down to it, we have an obsession with being number 1. If we won the world cup I think soccer would grow a lot. People here don't want to see a 2nd tier league with2nd tier players, tthey'd rather go to europe and watch soccer.

Because that's acheivable for 95% of Americans.
"I know they just builded that new-fangled stadium in downtown and we could get tickets for $10 a pop, but them dudes ain't no good. I'm going to load up Burlene and the seven rug rats and roll on over to the San Siro for the Meee-lan derby."
shite, I'd be shocked if 50% of this country could find Europe on a map.
Might want to reach into that hat and see what else you can come up with.

Players can't be offside in their own half, although this rarely comes into play.

I was thinking of putting it closer to goal perhaps just above the 18 box. Every now and then in FIFA I'll flub a 2 on 1 because the second guy wasn't disciplined enough to stay onside.

You know what is funny about this? Soccer is not and will never try to please American People. You really think they care what Americans think. For people that say it is boring, it is the most popular sport in the world for a reason, and that will never change. I know people from offsides that know soccer much more than I do and they said removing offsides would kill the game.
