So far this year with 50 games played and over 220 PA, he's amassed 1.4 fWAR which is 49th among position players, he's proved 1/3 of the value of Mike Trouts and Mookie Betts individually. According to Baseball Reference, he's only been worth 0.8 bWAR. With this injury history and the fact that he's only had one complete superstar season (2015) and his underperformance this year, can we stop this talk that he has a chance to get $40 mil aav or $400 mil +? His age is a huge benefit but he's nowhere near good enough consistently to justify that level of investment

Isn't he a 2nd half player like most stars? It's still May...

Yes, a lot of good players turn it on in the 2nd half more than the 1st.

And a lot of those fast start guys fall off late in the year.

Again, it's still May.

NL Ranks

1st in HR
3rd RBI
10th in OPS

Struggles seem to be overstated dont you think

I know some don’t buy into advanced stats, but dude has been extremely unlucky with balls in play. He’s a career .280 hitter, who despite his low BA, leads the NL in HRs, has a .909 OPS, which ranks 10th, and is first in walks. He’ll be fine.

I've said for a while that Harper isn't even a top 10 player. He's way too inconsistent. He hasn't put together two good seasons in a row since his rookie and second year.

Good player, but no one deserves 400 million.

Blah blah blah. None of this shite matters. Dudes getting 400 mil from somebody.

Are we determining good season by just BA? Because since 2015, he hasn’t had an OBP under .373 or an OPS under .814.

I love how people throw around WAR and other random useless stats like they actually mean something

IDK, at only age 26, Trout can certainly make that case.
