I’d love to see USC drop them. Does Big Ten have a rule about playing at least a P4 opponent/ND? (I’d guess not looking at Nebraska Schedule)

They already have a tough enough schedule next year:

at Indiana
at Penn State
Ohio State
Oregon

No

USC wants to play the game in September so they don't have a trip to South Bend every other year in the middle of traveling all over for the B1G schedule. ND wants to keep it as is as they need a decent opponent later in the year. This is the big sticking point in the negotiation.

Sounds like there will be a two year extension and then who knows. A lot of USC fans seems to want to trade off playing Cal and Stanford every year. The Bay Area trip was a big tradition for USC students.

Only 3 true away games is hilarious. Compare this to LSU’s 2026 schedule… night and day.

Big Ten is playing 9 league games, most still play another power conf team, I think the league encourages it, but it is not a requirement.

This year:

tOSU v Texas
Wisconsin v Alabama
Michigan v Oklahoma
Minnesota v Cal
Iowa v Iowa State
Illinois v Duke
Oregon v Okie Lite
USC v Notre Dame
Nebraska v Cincinnati
Michigan State v Boston College
UCLA v Utah
Purdue v Notre Dame

Teams with no Power conf games OOC: Washington (played Wash State), northwestern, Penn State, Rutgers, Maryland, Indiana

Id have to imagine USC could fill that void quickly Purdue will never drop that game as it is localized.

Looks to me like the smart bet is to put a big pile of money on the Bet that ND makes the playoffs in 2026!

What's the best betting service to use for this purpose?

Think further ahead:
Playoffs: which team will TPTB annoint as the chosen opponent for ND in their first playoff game?

You could make the argument that Navy is the 3rd best team on their schedule.

No you can’t… service academies shouldn’t even play FBS football in the NIL era
