They are all eligible after 3 years out unless in JUCO. It is players choice to sign.

The NBA used to draft and hold rights but player didn’t have to leave. Then it was stay 2 years but had to show hardship.

Bird was drafted as an eligible Junior played as a Senior signed before next draft.

All drafted players should be allowed to come back to school just like MLB.

But issue with that is only 2 rounds. The NBAPA created this and now want out.

The NBAPA shouldn’t whine about this.

But the kids typically stop taking classes the minute they declare. A bunch of fails would probably render them ineligible, no?

But baseball players do not declare. The NBA had this system but didn’t want it. Then they reduced the number of rounds. I mean baseball also has what 60 plus rounds? If the NBAPA cared they’d add rounds and ask for draft rights be held for a year or whatever.

It’s not that complicated. If the school has a scholarship they may offer it back to Little Timmy. If they don’t have a scholarship Little Timmy is shite out of luck.

I guess my perfect solution is treat NCAA players like Euro league players

Add 3 rounds to make 5 rounds
Draft whomever you like
Hold rights until they sign unless eligibility is exhausted then they’re back in draft pool
Let players decide when turn pro but once they say I’m going you can’t come back to NCAA

Because having to stay in college for 3 years pitching for head coaches who act like they want your arm to fall off before you ever have another chance at the draft is a great rule

No one is forcing the kids not to return to school if they aren’t drafted.

Larry Bird was like 23 years old when he left college.

College is the minor leagues...and don't complain about it being unfair, look at baseball...riding in buses for years on end?

Some guys only get a shot at 27-28.

Either you College yes, or you College no. But if you college so-so, get squished just like grape. Understand? Just like Karate. - Miyagi

High Schoolers can declare, this is a free market. But if you go to college, you fricking go to college.

The game has sucked since the 80's. Pat Ewing was at Georgetown forever. Hakeem, Clyde 3 years, etc.

THEY should just use baseball draft rules. Can go right out of high school or go to college. If they go the college route, they have to stay for three years.

Kids who can, get to go right out of high school. College fans get a better product.

I think those rules would see way more players going overseas.

I'm assuming basketball players would have the option to go somewhere and be drafted 1 year later like baseball players can do with JUCO.

Reauxl you saw my preferred way out. I think it’s a fair solution.

What is yours?

Not sure why people like you want to whine and bitch just because these athlete's can't have EVERYTHING their way.

Lmao the amount of ignorance in that statement let alone your entire post is appauling. This whole system isn't "their way". The athletes hardly have a single thing "their way". I don't think you could have made a dumber statement if you tried. I don't understand why people want to control athletes. Give them all the options they can to suceed.

I don't hate your idea.

I feel like really good NBA talent evaluators would feast.

I don't have any good plan. I don't really care enough to put in the effort to think about it

I don’t have a great answer to your question, but I think it’s ridiculous how the system is geared so much against the athletes in this country. Hell, soccer teams are signing kids at 12 years old in other countries and a basketball player can’t go to the NBA out of high school here. The NCAA is really the worst organization in sports. BTW, I realize the age rule is an NBA rule.

So just count it as somebody that wants to transfer, in a sense? Since it would be the same repercussions. Im not arguing, i’m just getting on the same page.
