Steve says some dumb stuff, but this is one of the funnier ideas he has had. Imagine how difficult it would be for recruiting, which is a main reason why they dont allow you to return. And in my opinion, if you arent good enough to be drafted in the first 2 rounds, you should never have declared.

Thoughts.

so say a team has no open scholarship spots left cause little Timmy wanted to go pro after his first year and they already signed a kid that is enrolled (basically taking his spot). Little Timmy doesnt get drafted cause he thought he was a lottery pick, and now little Timmy wants back on his old team that has no scholarships available.

They are allowed to declare then rescind the choice. So if they get undrafted that’s a bad choice. Football is the same way.

It's a tough situation, but choices have consequences. Maybe focus on beefing up your D-League Kerr.

I also believe they’re allowed to declare multiple times while in school.

If the players aren’t trying in school and think they are one and done, I feel it’s hard to believe they will be academically eligible by the time the next basketball season rolls around. If I am thinking I’m in school for 6-8 months, I’m not going to class..and then try and go back to school after I don’t get drafted? Could be hard.

I think G-League improvements is really the way to go.

I think they should move up the draft and give players the option just like in baseball....

Who is harmed if they're allowed to continue their college career?

They could go the baseball route. Players don't declare, they can be drafted simply by being eligible. If you aren't drafted or can't negotiate a deal, you go to school.

Works for baseball though it makes recruiting more difficult.

One of the greatest things about baseball by the way.

Thus requiring little Timmy to sit out a year anyways. That doesnt defend my point, but it defends the position on not allowing the kid to come back and play immediately.
