First of all, no team uses the zone as their primary defense and hasn't since it was allowed in 2001. League wide teams use zone less than 25% of the time and some teams almost never use it except in specific situations. It's simply not that effective now that shooters are so efficient.

Second, the no zone rule was VERY loosely utilized in the paint. Guys like Mutumbo would 3-6 feet off their man and basically live in the paint all game waiting for drives to the bucket. It's why blocks are down so much among post players.

So many of these shooting fouls Lebron, Westbrook, etc. draw today were jump balls, clean blocks and no calls through the mid-90s.
Scoring averages weren't down but points were earned, not given. Jordan at his absolute peak still never got as many star calls as Lebron consistently gets.

Jordan went to the line about 2000 more times in 13 seasons than LeBron has in 13 seasons.

Your nostalgia is showing.

That has no bearing on my point, I never argued otherwise. The game was exponentially more physical and more total fouls were called as a result. That doesn't change the fact that they let a lot more go as well and players weren't tossed for the relatively minor fouls like today.

Moreover, the nature of the game discouraged many players from driving th basket.

Instead of Lebron having compilation videos of all his flops on YouTube, there would be videos of players like Rodman and Laimbeer actually clotheslining his arse every time he drove to the basket.

Can you imagine what the Pistons would have done to him if he did that passive aggressive post-block shite he does?

Good lord

Yall realize that yalls hero Lambieer has said that LeBron would have dominated his era because no one back then was as physically gifted as he is right?

Yup...You think Bron cries about fouls in todays game.... He would get beat-da-frick-up back then.. They would totally diminish his ability to drive to the basket... Not to mention how physical the Celts vs. lakers series were back in those days....

Now I don't know the breakdown on this board, but I'd wager most here who argue that are under 25. I just don't believe anyone who watched Jordan in the 90s or understands how much harder the game was for scorers back then could reasonably believe Lebron is better.

What? We've been over the difference in zone defenses time and time again.

Lol Laimbeer's a-hole would pucker so quick it could cut a Cuban cigar if he saw LeBron coming at him full speed.

Lol.

Do these guys really think lebron would get beat up in the lane with the 80/90s teams? The dude is what 6'10 and weighs 260 and runs like a horse. He would be delivering blows in the lane.

My dad is a very big supporter of the game was better during his time but he even admitted lebron would wreck shop 30 years ago.

So the team that was labeled "The Bad Boys Of Basketball" in an era when a punch to the face was a personal foul would be scared of Lebron?

The East was not a cake walk in the late 80s - early 90s. He had to get through the Celtics and Pistons, not the Raptors and Hawks.

The fact he got the Cavs to the Finals the first time and then actually winning with the Cavs is more impressive than anything Jordan ever did.

Look at how the Cavs fared without Lebron and how the Bulls fared without Jordan.

Lambier himself said Lebron would have been the best player ever if he played in the 80s because of how physical he is. But don't listen to the man himself, just keep jacking off to a myth

The idea of Lebron or even Curry going up against Salley, Lambier, Mahorn, Rodman and even Isaiah was a dirty little frick; is laughable.

The bottom line was the Pistons put a hit out on Jordan. Whenever they played they'd beat the crap out of him literally. And he still beat that arse and NEVER choked in a Championship Series.
