Media does get too cute with MVPs in the NBA. LeBron could reasonably have won it most of the last 10+ years but nobody wants to see that, so they vote for other people. Same for MJ, etc, any great player for an extended period of time. Look at Drew Brees who never has one.
Whoever mentioned the Steve Nash v Shaq/Kobe fact said it all.
He had an argument this year for sure, definitely better than the amount of 1st place votes he received.

There is no changing of the criteria this year. Best statistical player on best team is usually how it goes. Or best player on one of the top teams. Giannis’ # were so much better than bron, and his team had a better record, the only argument for bron would be that he was in the tougher conference...but the numbers have to be somewhat close to make that argument. Heck harden had a better claim last year than lebron had this year.
