Crouch
Not because he didn't sniff the NFL (this is PURELY a College award after all) but he wasn't even all that special in Nebraska's system.
He had a Heisman moment against Oklahoma catching a pass for a TD...and voters latched onto that as lazy as they are. He had 7 TDs and 10 Ints passing.
And you say, oh well, they were an option team. Tommy Frazier had 17 Tds and 4 Ints in his stellar year where he didn't win the Heisman. But they gave it to Crouch because he had over 1,000 yards rushing and he wasn't a Sophomore like Grossman and Nebraska was still a media darling and ranked in the Top 2.
Rex Grossman should've won the Heisman. Crouch led Nebraska to a blowout loss to Colorado, didn't win the Big12 and then got blown out by Miami in the Rose Bowl.
People saying Jason White are crazy, he had a phenomenal year and threw for 40 Tds.

I don't view this question as "Who shouldn't have won it because someone else that year did better."
I view it as, "Who is the worst on this list."
Eric Crouch.

Yeah...going into Championship Weekend he was far and away the easy pick for the Heisman. He threw for nearly 4,000 yards, passed for 40 TDs, and only threw 10 INTs. Those numbers in a major football conference were god-like back in 2003.

2006 - well, an underclassmen has never won the Heisman, so we have to give it to Troy Smith, thus fricking over McFadden.
2007 - Tim Tebow should be the first underclassmen to ever win the award, thus fricking over McFadden yet again
McFadden had a much stronger case in 2006, given the instability of his QB situation and the team winning 10 games and going to the SECCG.
I think what hurt him both years that no one wants to acknowledge is Felix Jones running for 1000 yards behind him. Same deal as Wisconsin - if your system and OL make every player look good, it's difficult for the media to reward any one player.
The only defense necessary for Tebow's award is that no player in history had every had 20 passing TDs and 20 rushing TDs in the same season. Tim added on an extra 10 passing to have a 30/20 season. That is just flat stupid, the kind of season I would have thought impossible as a kid.
For comparison
Vince Young 2005:
212/325 65.2% 3036 26/10
155 car 1050 6.8 12 TDs
Tim Tebow 2007:
234/350 66.9% 3286 32/6
210 car 895 4.3 23 TDs
Vince Young was one of the most dynamic QBs in history and had a historic, unstoppable season.
Tebow had more passes, more completions, more yards, at a better %, with more TDs and fewer INTs. And he had double the rushing TDs with only ~150 fewer yards.

I mean McFadden's season wasn't that great. 1600 yards and 14 TDs.
I mean Melvin Gordon didn't win it in 2014 and he had 2500 yards, and 29 rushing TDs.
I think looking back 2006 was just not a great heisman group. Beanie Wells had the same numbers as McFadden did a year later and no one thought he should win the Heisman

Everyone seems to conveniently forget this, especially Auburn fans. Weird, huh?

Suh's reputation grew because of what he did in the NFL. By the weekend of the Heisman ceremony, it was a two-way race between Mark Ingram and Toby Gerhart.

And yes, Suh should have also won the Heisman based on the Big 12 title game that year alone
Maybe thinking of someone else, but didn’t some of the voters try to use the argument that it’s a regular season award and the conference games are post-season.

Yeah Matt Leinart won it the next year and he threw for 3,322 yards, 33 Tds and 6 Int's.
So you can see how impressive White's stats were for the time.

And Reggie Bush still deserved it. Not his fault he lost his mind in that title game and Carroll wanted to play everything through White.

The correct answer is Mark Ingram. Suh was unreal that year. He alone had more tackles and sacks than Gumps entire defensive line combined.
It’s not even really about Suh. Toby Gerhart had 1,800 yards and 28 TDs that year.

he also had over 1,100 yards & 18 Tds rushing, he was a running back playing QB

Mark Ingram wins this easily.

As a Razorback fan, I am still bothered by the OSU suck off that cost Mcfadden his Heisman.

Still the most dominant individual performance from a defensive player I've seen. Colt might as well have been a ragdoll that night.

Better question is who should have won it ... I think all were pretty much deserving... but some shouldn’t have won it

Young was better than Bush
Bush should have won instead of Leinart

7.5 sacks is still an outstanding number for an interior DL. Suh was dominant. That game took it to another level.
I think something we've learned over the last 20 years is that Heisman voting needs to be done after the bowls.
