I'm guessing that James jr. isn't the most popular player around the red raiders' practice field right now.

He wasn't before now...

Did Leach push the issue so he would get canned?
I have no idea.

No frickin' way. TV is for the beautiful people, and Leach is not one of them. He has a face made for radio if you know what I mean.

Things we know....

1. Many of James' coaches and teammates think he is a bitch.

LINK

2. Leach is a bit odd..maybe totally crazy...but he can coach

What we don't know - why the hell did TT want Leach out so badly? Seriously, this is where I'm totally confused. Why would they be so eager to get rid of their football savior?

It was a highly publicized fact that Leach and the AD did not get along.

This is the same AD who fired Bobby Knight. This guy has a serious fricking ego. Neither Knight nor Leach would kiss his arse.

Simple as that.

The AD didn't like him. Really contentious contract negotiations, plus Leach isn't the kind to politely follow orders and toe the company line. You might say he's something of a loose canoon. [Pirate joke!]

Thing is, the fans like Leach a lot more than they like the AD. He may really be shooting himself in the foot here.

That's an understatement.

anyone know of a good Tech board?

Would like to go see what their fan's take on all this is
I'd ask a few of them, but I think they left to drown their sorrows at the nearest bar.

I've talked to a handful of guys today who are pretty big fans, alumni who contribute, etc. They are choking back the tears. Not one of them has had a flattering word for Adam James or his father. They all fear that Tech's football program is slipping into the abyss. Despondent is not an exaggeration.

Yea, i hear what yall are saying, and I obviously agree that the two don't like each other, but that is petty and I just hoped/assumed that the AD would be more professional. Based on the 3 quick replies to my q, though, seems like I'm wrong and that is the simple answer

That's what I'm getting from my TT friends, as well.

Gerald Myers didnt fire Knight, he hired him. It was only because of Myers that Knight came to Lubbock.

This whole thing reminds me of "Patch Adams." You know at the end when he's sitting there explaining to all those stiff old white guys how he may be eccentric and different but he's still the best and got the most out of people.

Leach's enemies didn't like him because he wasn't an "it is what it is" coach like Saban or Mack Brown who have the personality of a brick. Executives and administrators must have their asses kissed by everyone all the time. That's how they got to where they are and they know no other way.

Come to Lafayette Mike Leach, we'll let you walk around the sidelines with a sword. We'll build you a pirate ship to live in and we'll let you call our players' girlfriends chubby.

It seems pretty strange that a matter that could've been settled with a simple apology has now led to a termination.

Thanks, hadn't heard. I guess that's why it seemed strange

Here's a really good writeup from a guy who is a lawyer, the best football blogger on the planet, and actually bothered to read the whole contract (which I didn't )

LINK

It includes this interesting comment about the 'apology'

quote:

Note too that it sounds like the University tried to get Leach to sign an “apology” letter that quoted from the contract, which would have been used against him as an admission as having violated it and thus giving them permission to fire him for cause

If Tulane wouldn't hire Rich Rod because he is Mexican, do you think they would hire a pirate that locks 20 year olds in closets?
