But they're technically fine because they can still make a 12 team playoff. This is what sucks about the playoff system

We need to fire him. Supposed to be a recruiting and defensive guy and we show our arse all the time with him

This loss would have been massive back when college football was still good. They could lose 1 or 2 more games and still play for a national championship.

Honestly Lanning looks like shite. Half the Oregon fans are at the river on LSD, no pressure there to win. Elite facilities, Nike money, Willamette Valley…he is not cut out for the SEC pressure.

He is a great defensive coach

They lost both of their coordinators after last season. I think he is a good head coach but needs a great offensive mind around him and imo is in the second tier of coaches with a bunch of other guys who are all more or less equal as head coaches.

The men I’d consider in tier 1 is very small though. Kirby, Ryan Day, Lane Kiffin, and if he can replicate his success to some degree again this year Cig.

Oregon isn’t going to be able to replace Lanning with any of those guys so they are better off sticking with him and letting him improve. He is still really young

Cristobal left Lanning with a ton of talent yet Cristobal got to the championship game with a rebuilt Miami before Lanning could.

anyone can look like a great defensive coach when you have 3 deep 5 stars like UGA was pulling at the time plus Coach Boom just coaching the seconary

I agree he’s probably a better head coach than Lanning is currently.

He’s a lot older with a lot more experience though. IMO Lanning has the potential to reach those heights one day.

Idc either way though I’m just giving my opinion. I hope Oregon and Miami both lose all their games

People can gripe about NIL and the portal all the want. But, Michigan beating Ohio State in one of the greatest rivalry upsets of all time and it meaning nothing within 2 months was when it really felt like CFB shifted from being a regular season sport and what it had been for its entire existence.

Heck, Ohio State played a Notre Dame team that lost to Northern Illinois, which would have pretty much DQed them from playing for any national title in CFB history before.

Was it fine when Auburn beat Bama and UGA in the same season then both those teams played for the title…in the 4 team system?

The Big 10 champ is an auto qualifier. Remember that huge game in early October a couple of years ago when Oregon beat Ohio State by 1 point?

Neither does anyone else. Because Ohio State went on to win the Big 10 and beat Oregon in the rematch in the semis that actually mattered on their way to a National Championship. Out of conference games mean even less. Now this Oregon team doesn’t look good enough to win the Big 10. Right now. Teams get better.

I haven’t seen their schedule, but Oregon could go 8-1 in conference and walk into the playoffs at 10-2 and nobody would even remember this game was even played. Notre Dame didn’t make it at 10-2 because they didn’t beat anybody and the other 2-loss teams that got in did.
