Last time I checked he is hot shite.

he just flat out missed it and the ref assumed Kobe only misses dunks if he's fouled.
It's a fair assumption. If Kobe misses a shot, he was fouled. If Kobe turns it over, it was either his teammate's fault or a reach in foul. If Kobe gets a technical, the refs are being dickheads. K-O-B-E does no wrong people.

Kobe is to David West what Jennifer Aniston is to a 300lb shemale with a 10inch cock. Kobe is hot shite, bruh.

he is a ball hog, he can't carry Lebron's jock or Dwayne Wades gym bag.

Kobe Bryant is one of the top 5 players in NBA history.
He was the catalyst on those lakers championship teams. Those late 90's laker teams were a good team but couldn't take the west (eddie jones, van excel, elden campbell, shaw, shaq, horry, fox, etc).
when kobe was inserted into the line up over Eddie Jones, that's when the Lakers got over the hump and set the formuala for which they won on; Shaq beating them up in the initial quarters and Kobe delivering in the end.
Think back to those key moments down the stretch against Kings, Spurs, and I even remember the 15 point 4th qtr comeback against Portland.
Those classic games had a signature that is the core component of Kobe's reputation to this day (clutch play down the stretch).
On those championship lakers teams and in those key games, Jackson would break the triangle and run Kobe off pick and roll. Kobe set up those Horry three pointers, those glenn rice/fisher/fox/shaw threes in the corners, the lob passes to shaq, and those last second heroic shots.
I think the Jordan comps are legitimate. Jordan became a living legend when he won his second 3 championships. He was older, not as athletic, and his team was more grit than flash. His finals percentage wasn't great either (41%, 45%, 43%) yet he's remember for the strip of malone, the game winner on russell, etc.
MJ didn't win anything by himself. He needed paxson, pippen's roaming defense, kukoc's versatility, cartwright's defense, kerr, etc.
I'm seeing Majic, Bird, Jordan, dr. J, Oscar, and Kobe in the same wing. I'm sure Lebron is going to be there as well.
btw, what makes you think the lakers are not set for the next 5 or so years. they have as good a core as you can wish for (farmar, ariza, bryant, gasol, and bynum). You add in some other shooters, defenders, veterans, and big guys and that's a championship quality team for the next 5+ years.

nah, not really. you had a decent post going until you started trying to legitimize the comparisons to jordan, which are ridiculous and unearned

But Kobe is the only one who's close, so despite the gap between the two, it's a legit comparision.

Kobe Bryant is called the best player in the NBA, because he is the best PLAYER in the NBA. He may not be the best leader, or the best winner, but he is the best player in the NBA. Karl Malone, John Stockton, and Charles Barkley never won championships, but does that take away from how talented they were? No.
The next best player is Lebron, and I'll tell you why he's better then Lebron. Defensively he's much better. Lebrons defense right now consists of taking risks for steals, and getting weakside block. However, one on one, he's not at Kobe's level of defensive intensity. Kobe's outside jumper is better. Easily. No one is stopping Lebron from getting to the basket, but not too many people are stopping Kobe as well. They're equally good finishers. Kobe's the better free throw shooter. Just all around fundamentally Kobe is better.
Now I'm not saying he's Michael Jordan, because they're will never be another Michael Jordan. So stop comparing him to him, and downgrading how good of a player he is because he hasn't done what Jordan has done. Also, stop taking away from his accomplishments because of who he played with. Pippen wasn't too bad himself, but that damn sure doesnt take away from what Jordan did. Let Kobe be Kobe, and Jordan be Jordan. Because right now, Kobe is the best player in the league.

the guy said he is top 5 of all time. he's not.
he's also far from the most overhyped athlete ever. he should not even be in that discussion, b/c he is a great, great player. And yes, you can easily argue he is the best in the NBA right now.

basketball is one of those sports where you can't compare todays players with those in the 50's, 60's, or 70's/80's.
I know what Jordan looked like in the 80's (or similar skilled swing - Dominique, Ron harper before the knee, bernard king before the knee, etc) which was dominant.
I don't see Magic being a stud in today's nba or that his game in the 80's translates to modern times. In his latter years, little guys would eat his lunch (kevin johnson of the suns). Chris paul, Derron Williams, and the rest would keep magic off the point.
So he'd be a good passing front court player, limited range, good ball handling, and a decent post up game. Sounds like a poor man's Garnett, or even a facsimile of Ron Artest or Lamar Odom.
on that list only 1 player is "better" and that's jordan.
Wilt didn't have any basketball skill that you would teach a child. same with shaq and alot of those big men.
other players from times past (other than jordan or Dr. J), who could be as dominant in today's nba would be someone like Bird or Jabbar.

i think you should judge players against their peers and contemporaries, and by what they accomplished in their career. to try and compare any athletes from the past in any sport to players of today to see who is better really doesn't make much sense. Of course guys today are bigger, faster, stronger, etc, but the true measure of greatness is you dominated in your time, against other people with access to the same coaching, training, medicine, nutrition, etc.

Jordan didn't have anybody close to Shaq on his team. And those were clearly Shaq's teams from 2000-2002.
There is still a considerable gap between Kobe and MJ. Kobe is maybe a top 10 player historically, but not top 5.
Hell, I would take players like Hakeem over Kobe.

no one outside of Laker fans think Kobe is the best ever or one of the best 5 players ever
Posted on 12/28/08 at 3:55 pm to Lester Earl
I would hope not. But it seems the longer MJ has been retired, the more these comparisons are made.

I think these guys are going to be firmly ahead of Kobe:
MJ
Russell
Big O
Wilt
Kareem
That's the top 5 as far as I'm concerned and in that order. Outside of that, Kobe could definitely crack the ten greatest. Guys like Magic, Bird, Shaq, West, Reed, etc. are kind of lumped together, so if Kobe can continue his high level of play for a few more years, I don't think he's out of the equation for top 10 all time. The list gets kind of a fuzzy outside of the top 5 if you ask me.
