Compared this to the day he found out his brother was killed in Korean War

Not sure if it was posted but another person was confirmed earlier

quote:

4:56 PM PT -- The Mayor of Costa Mesa, Katrina Foley, just confirmed the identity of one of the other victims in the helicopter crash ... girls basketball coach Christina Mauser, who's married to Tijuana Dogs singer Matt Mauser. Matt also confirmed the news himself.

Girls basketball coach from Harbor Day HS in Newport Beach. Assuming she was one of the coaches for his girls bball team.

But he wasn't the pilot.

How could he be held liable?

he owns the plane. he (or his estate) can definitely be held liable.

I suppose if mechanical error was deemed to be the cause of the crash. Doesn't sound like the case right now.

he employed or contracted the pilot, there could be vicarious liability.

don't forget, this happened in California- the lawsuit capitol of the world.

eta- i'm not advocating that Kobe's estate/wife should be sued, or that he's actually at fault. someone else mentioned there will be lawsuits, and someone replied he's not liable, to which my response is that he probably could be held liable in civil court.

That would depend. Is this a pilot with a substandard flight record, that Bryant should've known about?

I'm not a lawyer but for fault to be assigned to him it seems like it'd have to be determined that a reasonable person in his place should not have hired this pilot to fly his helicopter, due to some apparent factor shotty flight record, history of drug use, something.

If the pilot was Bryant’s employee, then Bryant could be held liable if the pilots actions were found to be negligent. Employers are liable for the conduct/actions of their employees during the scope of said employment. Not really the time for this discussion though

This makes me think about the song by Depeche Mode, Blasphemous Rumours
Here is Kobe taking his daughter to a basketball game, being the father everyone wants everyone to be, and dies.
He could have been doing useless things and he'd probably be alive now.
It just makes no sense to me and it's hard to explain.

Some a-hole made this cartoon of Kobe dying in a helicopter crash back in 2017.
I always remember every time they showed Kobe landing at the Staples Center in his helicopter, I always prayed that nothing ever happened.

Y’all are getting annoying. If I’m friends with Kobe bc his daughter had a connection with mine.. I’m not going after his estate. No logical person is. It’s sad ur turning this into that. It’s one of those things that we can’t explain. The other family’s involved were in his inner circle bc of his daughter. Kobe had the means to do what he does on a daily basis. This is unfortunate but by no means the other victims sue him. This is not a money grab. It’s just terrible tragedy folks.

My daughter is 14 & resembles Gianna a lot. We've shared several hugs today since this news broke. It's just so hard to look at those pictures of Kobe & her together without feeling emotional. I really feel for the family members who are now dealing with such a tragedy & so much loss.

It shouldn’t be shocking. As in, we shouldn’t be in a place where we instantly except typed sentences to be thrown around like they mean the world.

They probably want their first mention of this to be profound.
