Herbstreit said this the Morning of Dec 1. The SEC Championship game that day was BEFORE Pitt beat WVA. No wonder you never understood.

You helped me make my point. The Miles to Michigan news broke before the Pitt/WVU game. Had WVU beaten Pitt, they would have been locked into the title game against Ohio State. Everyone in the world, Herbstreit, Miles, and Michigan's athletic department included, just assumed WVU (a 28.5 point favorite, looked like a powerhouse) would beat a horrible Pitt team pushing LSU to the Sugar Bowl, and therefore, Miles to Michigan.

Cal would shutdown. UCLA would shutdown.

Stanford wouldn't.

USC wouldn't.

Oregon might.

What Herbstreit is wrong about, and frankly most seem to be confused on this, the goal isn’t really to prevent people from getting coronavirus forever. Assuming we space it out correctly, it won’t be a big deal for a college football player to get coronavirus in October or November

He is acting like the goal in this is never return to normal operations until you guarantee football players can’t contract the virus. That isn’t how this works. Even with a vaccine, people will be getting covid-19 going forward.

I'm late to the party, but I don't love Kirk Herbstreit's remarks. He is, undoubtedly, an influential voice among the many CFB media. We're at two weeks since the Bay Area went into "shelter in place" and 10-11 days for other major metropolitan areas, including Chicago and New York. The country is, very much, taking the spread of COVID-19 week-by-week. There's no telling what will happen in August - It's irresponsible speculation for Herbstreit to incite this sort of "fear" of cancelling CFB five months ahead of first games.

They may postpone it in order to give teams more time to practice, and they may even play without fans so we don't go over the original 500 people guideline the CDC advised against.

But i just don't see us still struggling to the extent we are now by the time August come around. I could be wrong, and I could just be blindfully ignorant. Doctors will still be treating patients. But I strongly believe we will havr this thing somewhat under control by then.

The assumption that many make is that this is totally over by the fall. But let’s not forget there may be a second run of this this fall, like the Spanish Flu did around a century ago. So, everything is up in the air.

If things are still this bad come September and everything is still shut down, then that means the global economy will have crashed to oblivion and there will be mass suicides from desperation and extreme anxiety.

As hard as it is to think, for most of us College Football will be pretty low on the list of things I'm concerned with.
