I'm sure that had some to do with it. But he was definitely trying to send a message.

100% this. Lebron wanted to win this one because he hasn't been getting MVP talk.

Brian Windhorst of ESPN:

James does care about team success first, but he also cares deeply about individual awards. That includes right now and the developing MVP race. He has been privately wondering why he’s not more involved in the national conversation on the matter considering his play over the last quarter of the season.

Kinda late IMO.... Harden or Curry or even westbrook are way ahead of Bron at this point.....

It's disappointing to see Love relegated to such a specialized role. His skill-set should be the perfect compliment to Lebron's game, and something Lebron has never had. Love is a great rebounder who can spread the floor as a legitimate perimeter shooting threat. It sounds great in theory, but after thinking about it I'm not sure what other way he should be utilized on this Cavs team. He's not a great pick and roll guy and playing with his back to the basket clogs the lane which diminishes both Lebron and Irving's effectiveness with penetration. Irving is a better shooter than Wade was but doesn't move as well without the ball, which doesn't help promote Love's passing ability(which he doesn't get enough credit for).

It's similar in some ways to Miami with Chris Bosh, except Love's role is even more specialized because of his perimeter shooting ability and the makeup of the Cavs' roster. Bosh was very good at getting guys in the air and drawing fouls close to the basket. However, Love showed some of this in Minnesota and seemed to be much more effective offensively in the high post, but you wouldn't want to do that with Lebron on your roster. Right now they seem to operate better like all of Lebron's best teams have, by spreading the floor to open up penetration lanes and set up outside shooters.

LeBron was very obviously trying to show who the MVP is because he was playing against Harden.

He wanted to win that game and dominate Harden bad. You could see it. He took more shots than he had all season. He took his 2nd most shots just a couple games ago against the other MVP candidate, Stephen Curry.

LeBron was definitely trying to send a message.

But he fell short. Harden was game for the battle.

This. All of it

I think he picks up his player option instead of working a long term deal with Clev.
He's all Lakers next year if they offer him.

on offense definitely
but while lebron was guarding harden, harden was as far off the ball as he could get on defense

nothing makes me happier than watching lebron fail, but hardens not the MVP

21, 6 and 3 as the 3rd guy. What a scrub.

Dude gets shite on more than anyone now and its fricking ridiculous.

He is the new Chris Bosh. There is just not enough ball to go around as the big man and third option on Lebron's team.

It's really basic math. LeBron's teams don't score crazy amounts more than other teams, but he stuffs the stat sheet. Somebody has to take a hit on the stat sheet.

Yep...

Same thing happened with Bosh when they all went to Miami. Always ISO clear out for LBJ, and for obvious reasons... Nobody can stop that But you don't need a true post player with LBJ on the floor because it's always a clear out.

But both Love and Bosh got 13-14 shots per game. Bosh wasn't as good as a 3pt shooter his first and 2nd year with Miami, so he didn't take that many and would get that mid range jumper. Love shoots like 5 3pt shots per game out of the 13shots he gets. Which means he's playing on the perimeter a lot. And he can shoot the 3, but it's not his best asset. And Kyrie does a lot of ISO clear outs as well.

And honestly if I'm Love, I want to get out of Cleveland. Hes not being used to the best of his abilities. And the whole LBJ / Kevin Love drama would annoy me as well. Especially the whole "don't fit out, fit in" and LBJ lying about who it was about.

But I do find it very interesting that Kevin Love with Lebron is errie similar to Bosh playing with LBJ in Miami early on. Both guys got bashed and were almost used as scapegoats that took a lot of the blame for on the court issues.

Some great points in here. It's weird seeing love relegated to a volume three point shooter but I'm not sure what else he can do to "fit in".

Haven't been watching as much basketball this season so I won't comment much on the Cavs/Love but Bosh was relegated to spot up shooter more so because of Wade's lack of range than LeBron's ball dominance. When the Heat were at their best ('13) they moved the ball more than any team in the league other than the Spurs.

Love has increased his 3 point attempts compared to the rest of his game (36% of his shot attempts last season to 39% this season) but it's not a drastic increase compared to Bosh (never more that 3% in Toronto; went from 2% in first year with Heat to 23% in '14 - still the same this season without LeBron).

except that:

-bosh signed a 4 yr deal as a max free agent
-love came in a trade for the next NBA superstar and can be a free agent

I agree with everyone who says live should bolt though
