damn i just read one of the most amazing things about lebron's year this year

quote:
We could marvel at his consistency. You probably don't remember a bad game from James this season and that's because he was pretty much a human metronome of dominance this season. At his worst, he was Blake Griffin. No, seriously. Take James' worst 10 games of the season by Game Score (a PER-like metric developed by John Hollinger to evaluate single-game performances) and you'll find that he averaged 19.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 5.2 assists in those duds. Griffin this season? 18.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists.

In other words, statistically on his worst days, James was an All-Star big man. Maybe even a little bit better.

Technically he didn't pick them. the 50/40/90 plateau is a goal great shooters try to reach. LINK Here's a story on LeBron and Ray Allen talking about it.

And if he wanted to he could have mentioned Durant's 28 PER (52nd all time) or his .289 ws/48 (16th all time) this season. Regardless of what stats you use to show his on court production, Durant is having a ridiculously good season.

well, i didn't just cherry pick this. it's a well-known thing and even has its own wiki page

everything has its own wiki page, and fwiw even the wiki page notes these are statistics that are benchmarks for being a great shooter.

quote:

he's also a beast on defense this year and has increased his overall offensive efficiency. he's improved his PER by 2 points this year and is over 28 for the year

now here I agree with you. even with the quotes from KD (indicating he doesn't heave a last second shot up some games because he's worried about hurting his shooting percentage) I still think Durant is the second best player in the league today.

no shite

the only other volume scorer in the club is larry bird (and durant is better on defense than bird)

the club is RARE

volume scorers in that club are basically impossible

well i'm certainly glad we cleared that up

this is how silly internet debates take place.

I'm not objecting to the 50/40/90... i'm objecting to reaching that being a qualification for being considered the best player in the game. Obviously if he talked about his defense and PER in teh OP there would have been a different premise to address (and one I would not have disagreed with).

It's even earlier for calling him a potential 3rd greatest player of all time than it is to argue for LeBron as the greatest; I think there's a much greater likelihood that he ends up being more like a rich man's George Gervin-- a 4 time scoring title holder, a 13 time All-Star, a Hall of Famer, and a guy who, if his team never wins it all, will still be remembered as one of the dynamic guys in the league during an era when other players got the headlines and won championships.

It's not a shabby legacy to have-- and it's not far fetched.

the Bill Gates of George Gervins, maybe. Gervin's best PER was a 24.7...and that was in a vastly inferior (especially defensively) NBA

Durant will get one sooner rather than later. Voters will get tired of giving LeBron the MVP. It happened already (Rose) and it happened to Jordan when The Mailman won it.

What happens if LeBron opts out from Miami to go back to Cleveland with Kyrie?

more Lebron lube

quote:

Looking at recent history, Shaquille O'Neal and Amar'e Stoudemire are the only players who have shot better than James from the floor on at least 15 attempts per game since 1996-97 (when the StatsCube database began tracking shot distance data). When Shaq shot 57.4 percent in his 1999-00 MVP campaign, his average shot distance was 4.4 feet, or less than half the average distance of James' attempts (11.2 feet to be exact). When Stoudemire shot 59 percent in 2007-08, his average shot distance was 7.0 feet. So, if you lay Stoudemire and Shaq's average shot distance end-to-end, that's roughly the distance you're getting with James.

How has this thread gone on this long without mentioning LeBron is .1 away from breaking the all-time PER single season record? I am disappoint in you, SFP.

Can't be any dumber than this post here, folks.

Westbrook is a borderline top 5 player this season.

I recommend watching this guy's breakdown of Thunder games. He rips GOATbrook apart.

He really is.

I feel like #1-3 are probably fixed: 1) Lebron 2) Durant 3) Paul

Westbrook, Dwyane, Kobe, Harden, and Duncan are the guys I would guess people would argue about for the # 4 and 5

Why would you single out Russ from that video though? KD made just as many mistakes.

Also after watching that I think it's funny that someone told me Westbrook was considered a one of the best perimeter defenders in the game the other day.

Westbrook forces so many plays it is painful to watch him sometimes, but other times it is exciting and fun.

A guy came up and intentionally fouled him with 18 seconds left so he threw the ball up from half-court trying to get 3 free-throws instead up an inbounds pass from half-court, it isn't his fault the refs blew the call. If anything that video shows a high basketball IQ.

Putting harden with these guys is ridiculous. He is clearly inferior to these players. Also, Add healthy rose and Parker to the list superior to harden.
