He was having the best year of his career last year and probably would have played the last couple of weeks if the Chargers weren’t hopelessly out of it. I wouldn’t consider that over the hill.

I’m in the minority on this but I’m not entirely convinced Chicago shouldn’t just keep Fields, trade down and grab Harrison Jr, and attempt to bolster that OL while gaining more draft equity.

Good move for a team that’s going to have a starting QB on a rookie contract

Nabers will likely be drafted by the Chargers. He's the deep threat that Herbert needs.

People get way too caught up in age sometimes, if a player is still early 30's and absolutely dominating then it really isn't that big of a deal.

Guy just had the best year of his career, 108 catches for 1,243 yards 7 TD's and averaged 95.6 yards a game on a non playoff team that fired their coach and his QB got hurt.

Put some respek

The line is actually solid. Two solid young tackles, and Tevin Jenkins could be all pro if he could stay healthy. Only weak spot was center and they scooped up two guys this FA.

Agreed. Fields led the league in pocket time last season. Part of that was him holding the ball too long, but he can't hold the ball that long without protection.

As long as they have a competent center who can actually snap the ball, the line should be fine.

If the offer is right, I would trade back a couple to pick up a couple extra picks and keep fields. Maybe draft Penix in the second round if you want to let him learn. They need edge guy as well as WR. I could see them going Harrison and Dallas turner if still there at nine.

I’ve seen Nabers mocked to them at 9 a lot too but I don’t think he will be there. I don’t think he falls past 6.

I still don't believe they want to keep Fields. Poles and Eberflus didn't draft him, and they both kept their jobs, while most of the offensive staff got canned. They had some weapons and a decent o-line last year, so it seems evident who they think the problem is.

However, local radio has been reporting the trade market has been soft for Fields. Atlanta seemed like a possibility, but they already signed Cousins. The Bears might be stuck with Fields, but I just don't see them having the #1 overall pick two years in a row, and passing on a QB in favor of draft picks again.

In a 16 then 17 game season. He’s played in 23 of his teams last 34 regular season games and turns 32 in 6 weeks.

You’re moving the goal post to fit your agenda

Yes he played in 10 games in 2022 but outside of that saying he’s always hurt is just not true

You’re bringing up age when dude just dominated every game last year. Mike evans will be 31 by the start of next season

He played every game once in the last 4 seasons and he's missed 11 games the last two. Definitely the picture of health. Eta: That was after they moved to 17 games so he's missed one every year.

This the NFL, find me a player that isn’t missing 1-2 games every year

Missing 1-2 games is not “always hurt”

Always hurt is Michael Thomas and Odell Beckham

The problem with fields is that he’s about due for an extension and passing wise he’s still on the level of a first or second year QB. So why wouldn’t you opt for a better prospect on a controlled rookie contract ?

Even if Williams is a disappointment the odds of him being worse than Fields seem low

Lot of money for a guy who is on the back side of his prime, but he should have a few years left given his style of play (more of a possession receiver who doesn’t rely on speed).

Bears have a lot of cap space and a pretty clean future cap situation, especially considering they'll likely have 5 years of cheap Caleb Williams. They've historically underspent, so it's actually surprising to see them take on an expensive aging player

That’s not true at all. The Bears spend money. They gave Julius Peppers and Mack both top of the league paydays. The Bears problem has always been not getting the QB right. Whether that was from talent evaluation, development, or both. Both they’re not cheap when it comes to paying players. They just reigned Jaylon Johnson, paid Sweat and Kmet huge extensions during the season. They were bottom of the league in spending the last few seasons because they were rebuilding from the ground up. Smart in hindsight now that they appear ready to make a run
