Now that we know that many professionals have burner accounts (I'm sure more will come out soon). I don't see what the big deal is. People nowadays like their athletes/celebs to be approachable. This might be the most genuine way to accomplish this. Given the fact that Twitter and Instagram (for the most part) are built on the fact that everyone wants the last word.
