It really seems that the only people who care about this are white people and the media.

I really think this guy just wanted an out to sell.

let me rephrase

I don't have a thought about Bruce Levenson, but I don't value KAJ's opinion on anything aside from actual basketball

Curious: why would he need an excuse to sell? Couldn't he just put the team up for sale? If anything, perceived duress as cause for sale can only suppress market value. Wouldn't it make more sense to simply put the team on the market without a hint of controversy?

Being that a deal to sell the Hawks fell through in 2011, I think Levenson for whatever reason(s) wanted to ditch the team. There might have been no takers without this supposed "racist notoriety." Some others want to buy a team but it helps them in the court of public opinion to buy a team from a racist.

This.

He's already fielded some offers.

Remember, he self reported this.

TBH, even the media is stepping cautiously on this. It seems like they're putting up trial balloons to see if white people will start self-hating or civil rights leaders will make a huge fuss.

exactly and this was from 2012

there is an angle here for sure

I think he was legit in the questions he asked but he did it in a hamfisted way.

What if the Rockets went out of the way to cater to the Latin market? The team product was packaged with mexican/latin replacing all the places where he said "blacks." I can assure you that would drive away a significant part of the casual fans that go to Rockets games. This isnt even about racism, it is more about exclusion.

Kareem is an American original.

A shy - thoughtful guy who was born into a body that made him standout like no other.

Greatest College B-Ball player of all-time, greatest H.S. player of all time.

He was also a first class co-pilot...even if he only tried during the playoffs.

Because common sense is becoming less common.

You skipped my first question, which would've supported this argument. Who exactly is calling it racist? Serious question.

I don't think levenson said anything too terrible, he was asking a legitimate business question as to the make up of his clientele.

Is there any reason to really ask? It's basketball and Atlanta. What demographic did he really expect? Does he even live in the state forget about the city?

all of his questions were very, very legitimate. there are a handful of ATL posters here who have probably been to hawks games and can vouch, and it's all pretty spot on.

i mean i like the nba and rap/hip hop as does most of the college aged white kid crowd i go to games with. the younger demo is not an issue. but the demographic he is talking about (35-55, white, the people with money) is absolutely, 100% turned off by the game atmosphere and game events he mentions. it would take a visitor 15 minutes in Philips Arena to notice that. i suppose there is a better way to present that if you are the owner of the team talking to the president, but i actually think he did an alright job without sounding obviously racist.

ETA: to the poster above me, yes there is an obvious reason to ask the shite he asks. whether you like it or not, old white dudes in suburban atlanta have a shite load of money. huge market that isn't tapped like the owner would want. not sure how to obtain that market, and neither is he, which is why he is asking the questions.

All of these questions Levenson asked could have been asked in a way that didn't reek of unscientific facts and prejudice and stereotypes.

I
Don't think the guy was a racist, just a guy desperate to sell a faltering product

Your first question seems rather obvious, does it not? Someone in the black community will find this racist in some form or fashion. Nobody in particular has come forth saying they are appauled yet, but it will come. Why? Because it is the cool thing to do right now, on top of uneducated people who do not actually read what Levenson said and interpret it from a legit business standpoint. It seems like Levenson wants out and is hoping to create some buzz about an otherwise buzzless and mentionless franchise.

ETA: Levenson poses legit questions about his business and expresses his concern about how his organization is performing. He sounds absolutely nothing like Sterling in any way, but I am sure someone with their hate mongering shades on will find it offensive. What Levenson says is what the Braves said and acted upon. They are bringing their product closer to their customers since their customers were not coming to them.

I think Levenson is about to make a serious profit off of a floundering NBA franchise. Nice exit IMO.

FWIW it's not a racist email. He's commenting on what some may consider racist behavior by the fans. I'd argue that it is cultural but whatever.
