Catch 22 of being a stud WR/RB. You either get paid what you are worth and have your team not be as good, or you play undervalued and have a competitive team.

How were the Colts able to keep Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne around for their entire careers with Peyton Manning as their QB? Were those guys underpaid or did Peyton take a massive discount to keep them around?

You mean he'll be like the multiple time All-Pro, Hall of Famer Randy Moss?

What kind of numbers did Randy put up in Oakland? Going to NE and putting up record numbers solidified his place in Canton, he had good stuff in Minnesota but his work with Brady put him over the top.

You mean he put up better numbers with Tom Brady than Kerry Collins/Aaron Brooks?

His overall career numbers suffered because of it even though he was one of the most gifted WRs of all-time. He had Moon, Culpepper and Cunningham during his time in Minnesota.

I will never blame a WR or RB getting as much money as they can, considering the career expectancy is so short.

The rookie pay scale really fricks them over more than any other position.

It's a dumb comparison. Randy didn't sign a big contract to go to Oakland, he was traded there and played on the same contract he had signed in Minny.

Traded then restructured his contract

He’s looking to be traded. Seems this way but he’s earned a bigger check regardless

Minnesota ownership isn’t known to be cheap. He’s looking to get paid, not traded. If the Vikings want to save money on skill position guys they’ll probably look to move Cook before Jefferson

Oakland was a dysfunctional hellhole when Randy went there. The players were basically in open revolt against the coaching staff. It's a ridiculous comparison.

If the team is still not good paying a player their “worth” Then are they really worth it?

They sacrificed defense. Harrison at one point was a top paid receiever, maybe not the highest but certainly top 5.

No, the NFL is a job. He is doing what every other business person does

frickin’ thank you.

I coached for 20 years, and I’m telling you, sports are different when it’s your livelihood.

Let me ask you all this: Would you rather make $100,000 working for the #5 bank in town or $50,000 working for the #1 bank? Is the company’s success as important as your success?

If a player’s big contract causes the team to go 10-7 instead of 12-5, that’s not his issue. All he owes the franchise is professionalism and his best effort. It’s up to the PTB to determine if he’s worth his contract demands.

Players need to be greedy. No one is loyal to them. No matter how good you are, a franchise will replace you in a heartbeat if they can find someone a fraction better - and they are constantly looking for your replacement.

frick loyalty. Professionalism? Yes. Loyalty? No.

Not sure what you are saying here. I think you mean that only one didn’t make the playoffs.

2 of them made the playoffs. One of them who didn't was Super Bowl MVP 12 months ago so it's hard to argue against his value.

The only position that should be possibly willing to take less money is a QB with a long shelf like and limitless endorsement opportunities. Every other position needs to maximize income. Too many things can change due to circumstances beyond your control.
