Fields’ talent remains apparent. At his best, he was viewed as a QB1 challenger. Nevertheless, beyond Fields’ raw abilities, there are other factors to consider. And according to Pro Football Network NFL Chief Draft Analyst Tony Pauline, he is hearing that Fields’ draft stock is dropping on some boards.

According to Pauline, there are concerns in the NFL community revolving around Fields’ ability to consistently scan the field and go through his progressions.

“The main concern is that Justin Fields stares down the primary target. He doesn’t look away from the primary target. He doesn’t process things as quickly as they want him to. During the Senior Bowl, I mentioned how there was one team who has broken down all of Justin Fields’ passes in 2020. They said that just seven times, he looked off the primary target. The other 200+ passes he threw to his primary target.”

Mac Jones to the 49ers

Being serious for a second, I’m aids at projecting NFL guys. But I’ve never been impressed by anything other than Fields’ raw talent. And even then, it looks overrated a bit to my eye. His 4.44 40 was clearly an impressive time, but didn’t look impressive at all. He looked clunky and slow.

He doesn’t seem quick enough to be the dynamic duel threat and also doesn’t seem aware of what’s going on enough to be the solid pocket passer.

TLDR: I’m an idiot and don’t really know what I’m looking at

Man just think.

Alabama had 4 first round wide receivers in 2017 and 3 NFL QBs, 2 of which are likely top 5 draft picks at the end of it all.

Oof. And that was one of Nick’s worst teams too. Why are all of Nick’s most talented teams his worst?

It’s not gonna be Mac Jones or Justin Fields to SF at 3.

It’ll be Trey Lance.

He’s the one you want, he’s got it all.

Size, strength, speed, and after watching/listening to his interviews, he’s the kind of guy you want.

Hell, I don’t even think he’s been playing football that long - but I could be wrong on that.

Either way, it’s Lance at 3.

One thing to consider is that this is the time teams and agents start putting out to force some prospects to drop or rise

Mac Jones is going to be a bust if he goes that high. 90% of QBs would look phenomenal behind that O-line, throwing to those receivers and handing off to those backs.

Analytics actually say he's not going to be a big time qb at the next level.

But he’s really good at deep balls during a pro day with no defense on the field.

Maybe, but Fields has some serious issues.

His inability to pick up UGA’s pro scheme, how rarely he goes through progressions, a hitch in his mechanics, misses some easy throws wildly...

I think if he goes to a team that expects him to start quickly, he may be sunk.

This has never happened before. It took scouts months to figure it out. Probably the same ones that thought Matt Leinart was a Top 5 pick.

Tua, Burrow, Herbert, Darnold, Murray, and Daniel Jones are the QBs picked in top 6 of the last 3 drafts. Everyone of them but Daniel Jones played tor the best team in their conference.

There are things to question about Mac Jones, but the narrative that scouts have been duped by his supporting cast is stupid. If they were, they would’ve drafted several other Alabama QBs first round as well.

So he’s not supposed to throw to his primary target if they are open?

What about 47% of Mac Jones passing yards coming after the catch? And the fact he lapped the field on passes behind the LOS?

ETA. There are multiple professionals who are actually putting their names behind their statements and saying the Fields doesn’t go through his progressions argument is bullshite.

We can all nitpick stats here and there for a guy. Which is why threads like this are stupid.

Hell, I can remember about 4 throws just from the Clemson game that were check downs to his last read in Trey Sermon.

Yes, let's believe NFL personnel on this. I'm sure they have no motive. Especially just days after there was leaks questioning his work ethic, when just about everyone with actually ties to the program have said the polar opposite.
