Lavar Arrington said over the weekend that Jay Paterno was causing problems in the background, which didn’t help matters.

How has Jay Paterno not been voted off the board of trustees yet?

It seems like the few times his name has surfaced over the years, it's because he's apparently causing headaches for Penn State.

He lost to osu and Michigan as double digit dogs for most of those top 10 and top 25 losses. 2 programs that spent a lot more on football than PSU. I’ll be happy for the same results in the ACC although some of the hires with the budget he has are head scratchers.

I still think Franklin the better coach… he for sure a better recruiter

They’re both good coaches so I don’t know which is better. But recruiting? Which team can pay more? That’s what recruiting is now.

Franklin is all about himself, not the school he is coaching. Egotistical beyond belief.

Never once heard this from anyone in all the time he’s been a HC. I thought he was well liked.

Franklin’s tenure ran its course.

This. He couldn’t win big games. After a dozen years, PSU didn’t think that would change. After so long, a change is inevitable.

PSU has a favorable schedule next season too.

Campbell should have been hired more quickly. Should have been the second choice after Cignetti. As quick as Cignetti signed his extension, I assume his agent toyed with PSU just to get an extension but PSU didn’t realize it.

To be fair, it's as good a gig in CFB as LSU or tOSU is.
They aren't competing with Pitt like in the 70s or early 80s. So they kind of have the run of the state and Western New York. Western PA has produced some very good ball players over the years on both sides of the ball

Kraft and Franklin did not get along at all.

They butted heads regularly once Kraft came on.

I truly think that Kraft thought that Matt Rhule would jump at the opportunity. Rhule played at PSU and he and Kraft are tight and go all the way back to when they were at Temple together.

When Rhule said no, I think Kraft was stunned and didn't have another plan.

, but when they canned Franklin were they thinking "now we can get the Iowa State guy?"

I think the got a reality check when people told them no. BYU's coach declined. That's gotta hurt.

Do some of yall not watch the games? Not only did Franklin make bone head moves that cost them big games for a decade, he lost two in a row and looked fricking terrible as 3 touchdown favorites.

He is a good coach I think, but it was time for a new voice there. The way Penn St got to Cambell certainly left a lot to be desired, but he’s a really good coach and he can have a lot of success there. Iowa St is in Ames fricking Iowa and he was able to have a good football team there every single year for a long time.

This argument only works if Campbell was their first choice. He was plan G when everyone else turned them down.

I’m not sure this is true, there’s a lot of smoke Campbell was waiting to make sure Michigan wasn’t coming open… which is a crazy twist of fate if true

Campbell is a better coach. And it's not close.
Franklin pulled a cignetti at vandy before you were allowed to Nil and portal. 9-4 in prime Saban era SOUTHEASTERN conference. No he didn’t go undefeated but back then it’s damn near the same
