I hope these start-ups never come back to Birmingham. The city supports it, and these jackasses just bail. I will support the FC, and new Gleague team.

I think that's another thing that speaks to what kind of slimy frick Dundon is. The league was in for the long haul, but their first critical error was not having funding set up. Their second was getting in bed with a snake.

The city didn’t really support it though. I don’t know of anyone here that went to a game

This sucks. I had to work a lot during the games but I was happy for players to have another outlet and it was real football.

Can’t find any details on it yet. Opened my ESPN app and it was just blank. Anyone else got any details?
Only the good die young.

I went to a game. There was a decent number of people there. Mostly blue collar folks. Maybe not your crew.

Neither AAF website nor its social media accounts (not the team accounts) posted anything about suspending operations. It just died that quick.

This is the best
FanDuel to pay out all AAF futures bets for $10K

FanDuel made every AAF bettor happy by declaring the 7-1 Orlando Apollos champions and paying out futures bets on them. However, the company decided to also grade all futures bets on the other seven AAF teams as winners, including the Memphis Express and Atlanta Legends -- two teams that had been eliminated from playoff contention.

I'm assuming you just mean players in cities for away games?
No, like, from wherever the team is HQ to whereever the player lives in the offseason. Part of the deal supposedly was when the season was over he would fly them home (because they aren't making a ton of money) but Dundon said because they didn't make it to the end of the season he didn't have to pay to fly them home.

I know it wasn't can't-miss football, but it was something to watch in the waning days of winter/spring. My kiddo is kind of a stats junkie and he was enjoying watching how their standings unfolded
Clay Travis had an interesting take yesterday. Basically said what the AAF proved was three things.
1) There is enough talent and enough audience out there to make a spring league work
2) They found a good mix between "real football" and enough rules tweaks to make it interesting.
3) It's going to take a metric ton of money and great business development to get a league through the first three years, and the AAF wasn't prepared for that, but he thinks Vince has both the money and the patience to make it work for XFL 2.0
AAF failing probably sharpened Vince's resolve and showed him what he needs to focus on, which probably means the XFL will be more successful because of it.

The second happened because of the first, sadly.

Dundon, owner of the Carolina Hurricanes, made his fortune off subprime car loans, before parlaying that into a 55 percent purchase of “TopGolf,” which marries sport and technology.
I didn't know he bought a majority share of Top Golf. That makes this all the more interesting.

That's funny because there was nearly 20k there last week.
