He's going to have one 200 yard game, everyone will pick him up off the waiver and he will never have a game over 100 yards the rest of the season.

There’s no chance he would be on waivers before then just based on name and football situation alone

Y’all hatin but IF he stays healthy, I think Julio has a couple more 1000 yard seasons in him. Dudes a freak

Because we’ve heard, “hey Bob, did you know *insert TE* played basketball until his senior year of college before switching to football” a million times it seems.

It’s happened like twice. They’ve just said it for Jimmy Graham a billion times.

We’ve got examples of that same exact thing happening at other positions but I never hear any one go “just make that guy a corner, should be easy enough, don’t gotta cover just gotta kind of be in the way”

Like 5 WRs have converted this offseason alone. It happens all the time.

And Julio is 45 pounds lighter than Gronk. Plus they signed Kyle Rudolph. So to answer your question, no

He doesn't have to become Gronk. Just pick up some of his role. You are taking it a bit too literally..

I hope he gets a ring though. Dude did everything in his power to personally guarantee it would happen, only for the Falcons to totally falcon after this catch

Switching positions isn’t the same thing as being a starting or contributing player at that position.

It takes even the greatest TEs a couple years at this level to grasp how to even play the position and be effective. Most take 4-5 years before they become a starting caliber player. It’s a position that historically gets hardly any rookie production because of how difficult that transition is

And yes, you can take a raw athlete and potentially find a TE out of that, but that’s far different than taking a 33 year old WR who already can’t stay healthy and trying to play him with his hand in the dirt. The idea is honestly ludicrous

I’m sure he will be leveraged in the redzone to take over that missing part of the offense, but it won’t be by him playing the TE position

The guy who got drafted after only playing basketball in college because NFL experts think that’s a simple transition apparently

But what about Darren Fells?

Again I’m not saying it can’t happen, you can keep listing off outliers but that doesn’t make it any less silly to suggest this for a 33 year old Julio

If Julio was 6’7 270 pounds like Fells I may be more open to the idea

Taking a raw 21 year old basketball player and turning him into some thing (which is still very hard and a very long shot of success) is different then taking random player X in the middle of his career and trying to tell him to play TE all of a sudden

You said it happened twice when I just tried to explain why some people think transitioning to TE isn’t the hardest thing in the world

I didn’t say anything about Julio

Yeah I understand why people are dumb about this, that doesn’t really explain anything or make it any less dumb

The position is extreme hard to learn and play. A couple of examples of it happening doesn’t make it less so. Especially when one of your “gotcha” examples never even played in an NFL game

I said it’s happened like twice, which obviously wasn’t a scientific count but you knew that

Well, I got more

Nobody watches And1 mixtape episodes and thinks, aw hell, put this gentleman at corner and he’d do really well.”

But it seems fairly common to do it with TE, compared to other positions. Leading me to think TE is the easiest transition.

What about Julius Thomas?

Bama players can play every position. It’s what Saban taught them.

That’s the thing… That’s a bit “if.”

He’s 33 and he has missed roughly 31 games in his career. He’s missed a ton the last two years.
