Judge Rules Players Can Go From NFL Training Camp Back to College

As the NCAA continues to lose rulings challenging the implementation of its new eligibility rules, a new consequence has emerged: Some football players who have participated in NFL training camps—and in some cases, even NFL preseason games—can now return to college.
On Wednesday night, a local judge in Louisiana granted a temporary restraining order allowing 16 former college football players a fifth year of eligibility. A number of these players have participated in NFL training camps and/or appeared in NFL preseason games.
The lawsuit itself wasn’t specifically about the players’ professional participation. Instead, the case was one of many filed challenging the implementation of the NCAA’s “age-based” eligibility policy.
The policy, passed in June, stated players would have five years to complete five seasons of eligibility (up from four) starting on their 19th birthday or when they entered college—whichever came first.

I’ve seen a lot of overreactions to this & I don’t like it but it seems like this is just a one time thing for a specific group of players

See this is the clickbait stuff that I see people overreacting to
ETA - Case in point: Ryan Clark’s dumbass misinterpretation of what this means

With Schefter being against it none must be going back to Michigan.

In general I'm tired of the judges making dumb rulings to make guys eligible that shouldn't be.
I don't feel like this is necessarily one of those cases though. The NCAA purposely waited to rule on 5for5 to try to make it harder for 2022's to gain the extra year that everyone before them and everyone after them got.
This is just attempting to give them that year. And these guys may not have attempted to go pro if they knew they had another year in college.

Correct, it’s just if you enrolled specifically in 2022. It doesn’t apply to anyone who enrolled in any year prior. It basically just matches the policy that the NCAA is now implementing for everyone who enrolled in 2023 and onward for the Class of 2022 also.
But obviously, this will not be the final lawsuit, and who knows where the next one will lead.

They probably should’ve just allowed it for 2022 players too when they changed the policy. Nobody (not literally nobody, I’m sure…) from the 2021 class would’ve tried to come back after being away from the NCAA game for a year-and-a-half at that point. Instead because they didn’t allow it for 2022, it’s just more chaos now.

How the hell can a judge have any authority at all on this matter?
Judges can just rule random shite about football leagues?
What possible jurisdiction does this judge have to make such an order?
What the hell is going on?

All I see is Ole Piss pulling out all the stops to win now, while belittling LSU for trying to do so.

"Jack Pyburn and Zxvavian Harris got to last year, so I'm suing because it's unfair I don't get to this year. Allowing those guys to come back hindered my progress and earning potential, and I deserve another shot".
Something to that effect.
Go in front of the right judge, and you will get this approved.

The 2023 guys are already getting it, so it won’t be an issue moving forward. The 2022 guys are suing because they’re not getting what 2023 (and beyond) will get.
Guys who enrolled in 2020 (and all the way back to 2017) already got the chance for a 5th year with Covid, even if they never traditionally redshirted. So maybe you’re looking at some 2021 guys (who haven’t played cfb since 2024, because it wouldn’t apply to any 2021 guys who redshirted/played last year) to try to latch on, but that’s pretty much it.
