Regardless of the outcome of Friday’s District 9-5A football game between John Curtis and Edna Karr or the Patriots’ subsequent success in the state playoffs, J.T. Curtis will have to wait until 2026 to become “America’s Coach.”

A 26-7 victory over District 9-5A rival Brother Martin on Oct. 27 reportedly gave Curtis 621 victories, tying him with the late John M. McKissick of Summerville (South Carolina) High for most career victories by a U.S. high school football coach.

But, because of 30 games the River Ridge school had to forfeit over a three-year period, beginning in 2013, for using an ineligible player, the team’s reported record of 621-78-7 does not accurately reflect the games Curtis forfeited as a result, according to officials at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA).

quote:

But the federation will not sanction a team’s or coach’s record without verification by the state association to which a school is a member, said Chris Boone, assistant director of communications and publications for the NFHS.

We are required by protocol to have the state association verify records for our official use,” Boone said.

Eddie Bonine, executive director of the LHSAA, said he will not validate Curtis’ victory total because it does not include the forfeits.

Maybe they should be banned from the playoffs until they return that trophy

Timing is suspicious

Also, Ron Brocato is highly respected. They couldn’t have found anyone with more credibility than him to put this out there.

He is the Catholic League historian and expert.

According to this comment, Curtis did not have to forfeit the wins after all, just the championship. If accurate, it sounds like Curtis negotiated some kind of settlement with the LHSAA to keep J.T.'s wins intact.

Maybe if they didn't cheat, none of this would be an issue...

If they didn't cheat, he'd have to wait until 2062 to break the record

Does he have another three years in him to coach, though? Dunno.

Doesn't seem accurate based on what the LHSAA is saying.

This is why people hate Curtis. Not return the trophy? Suing to have wins reinstated? LOL. Glad the courts told them to pound sand.

I remember when all this happened, and the Curtis people kept throwing how Christian they were to help this poor student athlete and how un-Christian all the "haters" were.

This is rich…

I’m not gonna lie… we’re probably one of the schools recruiting from them we’ve gotten some good transfers in a few sports

Maybe if this keeps up they’ll have to try to win state with River Ridge kids… the horror

The way that school operates is weird.

Always have thought that.

It’s crazy that I have 6 kids on my Jr. High football team actively being recruited from other area schools. Including non-select schools these kids do not live in the schools attendance zone. Make it make sense. We build champions and they try and take!

Yeah and I'm sure everyone of those kids live in said Curtis' district...

And I'm sure most of those Jr high kids are probably freshman at any other school.

In 2010, after losing to Evangel in the State Finals for the 2nd straight year, JT Curtis compared that to the kids that were tragically killed at Vandebilt and Hahnville. The guy can win every game, every year and I will still think that he is a piece of Human garbage!

I can almost promise you none of those 6 kids live in River Ridge...

When people get all mad about Doris taking city kids at CHS... if she is... she needs to do a better job of getting athletes and not just people starting fights and getting kicked out

I assumed that’s what they do…. Recruit from surrounding areas. Is this not allowed?
