Where does this notion come from? Jordan was one of, if not the, fastest players on the court when he played.

So many on this board act like Lebron's athleticism is light years ahead of Jordan's. Jordan has the highest vertical in NBA history ( LINK, LINK) so the claim that Lebron was somehow a way superior athlete is just unfounded.

Do you really beleive that? I dont give a shite what those links say. Do you really believe MJ has the highest vertical in NBA history?

Kobe isn't beating either one. LBJ and Jordan were better defenders.

LBJ is winning this. He is too big and strong in 1 on 1 and its not like he's slow. He can guard anyone.

Kobe is the best 1 on 1 period.

That comes from players straight from the 2008 Olympic team.

Kobe left there stating it matter of factly as well. No one on the team disagreed. You know they went one on one a lot in practices too.

Well, read about the Dream Team practices

So you came out with a mythical round robin in which each goes 1-1

Not that's a hot take

I kind of assumed this was based on measured vert but if not, I still think it's not unreasonable to believe Jordan has the highest. Perhaps some small-time player could jump through the roof but among the well-known players, can you name anyone who clearly had better ups than Jordan?

Between MJ, Lebron, and Kobe, they could all jump a frick ton. I think LeBron is the most explosive one foot jumper of the bunch, followed extremely closely by MJ

Yes. LeBron has clearly been a superior defensive player.

Well then Kawhi, Draymond, and AI, all who where the primary defenders on LeBron in the last 5 finals, must not be very defenders since Lebron averaged over 30 points per game. And they played on superior defensive TEAMS (compared to the Cavs), and KD played on the greatest offensive TEAM of all time.

Might as well take those 5 (probably soon to be 7) first team all defensive awards away. Plus those 2 (probably soon to be 3) defensive player of the year award away too.

Kobe was quicker and more explosive than MJ? Have you ever watched basketball before?

If Jordan had focused on playing defense at the beginning of his career like he did later on he'd have as many total All-Defensive Team selections as Kobe.

They both have 9 first team appearances. Kobe has 3 second team picks. Jordan had zero due to not playing defense his first 5 seasons.

He became the best defensive 2 guard of all time. Dunno how Kobe made so many all defensive teams, that guy didn't play much d NBA loves to prop its stars up is the only possibility.

1 on 1 'basketball' is not a real thing.

It eliminates so many important aspects of the game it's fundamentally a different 'sport' at that point, if you even wanna call it a sport.

1:1 favors big guys who can shoot. If you can stand outside and shoot over anyone with accuracy, it's pretty much game over.

I'd take Durant over any of them 1:1.

They started tracking on-off data during the 2000-2001 season. Kobe was first team defense in 8 of those seasons. When on the court the Lakers had a defensive rating of 105.1 and had a defensive rating of 104.2 when he was off the court. In other words, in the 8 seasons, the team was almost a full point per 100 possessions better on defense when he wasn't playing. His on-off defensive rating was worse in 4 of the 8 first-team seasons and the one second team season in that time frame, and he was worse than the league average in 3 seasons as well.

In other words, Kobe did not deserve a number of those all defense awards.
