JMU thinks they’re driving the SBC forward and that ULM is a drag on it

The Cajuns have never “moved up”, we’ve always been 1A/FBS.

Well yeah….ULM was a bunch of dumbasses for joining the Belt in 2000 because they knew they would never be able to compete with NIL in 2025.

Starts with people saying "I'll cheer for ULM when they are good". I've heard that from countless alumni. Guess what ULM has been good and those people. Crickets.

Hello, I really wonder what the hell is holding up Dr. Jim from getting vocal about this.
Does he not have many friends from his time as the head of the UL system?

Yes. The Southland was a D1A conference from 1978-1982 following the D1A/D1AA split in 1978. In 1982 the conference moved down and the Cajuns became a D1A Independent. This is the same year NLU moved up to D1AA from D2 to replace the Cajuns in the Southland.

This is the reason I absolutely hate LSU.
Let's Goooooooo Clemson.

Tech came in 88. ULL needs to stop trying to be Like LSU. Carve your own thing. Actually give a crap about ULM.

What were they before 78?
Posted on 8/5/25 at 7:58 am to jorconalx
They were a D1 Independent until 1977 and prior to that were in the NCAA College Division.
I am not a Cajun fan and don't like a lot of the things they do as they come across as slimy and disingenuous. That said they did not 'move up' to D1A/FBS they were there since that division was created and are listed as a Charter member of the D1A/FBS division. La Tech and Mcneese were charter members as well, but both went down to D1AA when the Southland went down. La Tech came back up in 1988, and Mcneese stayed in D1AA/FCS.

So they weren’t always 1-A/FBS. Thanks for making my point

I did not 'prove your point', you were wrong and instead of saying 'I didn't realize that the Southland used to be a D1A conference' you chose to argue despite being wrong.
You learned something new today, it's ok to learn something new. It's also ok to say 'I did not realize that', it's a much better look than moving goalposts and arguing semantics.

They played in a lower tier prior to 1978. Don’t know what to tell you. You ull fans are all insufferable douches
What did they play from 63-72? 74?

Maybe they should move to Atlanta

I don’t agree with what you are saying. When ULM had short stints of “goodness”, fans were there.
I was there many games during our 2012-2014 era which is our best era since moving up to FBS. Even though it wasn’t amazing. The fans supported.
I just crunched the numbers. After we upset Ark in 2012 & lost to Auburn in OT the fans set record for most attendees in a game when Baylor came. So the team started 1-1 & we came. 31,175 there. More than Tech has ever had.
2012:19,359 average home. Finished 8-5
2013:17,035 average home. Finished 6-6
2014:18,108 average home. Finished 4-8
Not great numbers but good enough. Definitely good enough to not blame fans for “not showing up” to support the team to victory. At some point the team has to sustain success to keep the fans attention.

Cajuns, LA Tech and ULM all gotta figure something out fast, t
These mid-major schools are getting squeezed out with the quickness.
Number 1 is they don’t have a large loyal fan base to support them.
Number 2 is with the Power 5 conferences expanding, these schools will have to play additional conference opponents, leaving out the mid-major schools rent-a-win money they have counted on.
Finally, the bowl scene can’t keep up the current pace. With the playoff system expanding, the non- playoff Power 5 teams will start taking the bowl spots they may not have been offered previously. Let’s face it…the bowls just won’t have a large appeal anymore and they may just start going away.
