PFT says a cut from $11m with bonuses to $7m.

Not great in terms short term but winning is great for getting a better contract. And given Denver’s D, it was mainly a matter of not fricking up too badly on offense.

You definitely have a point, although I don’t particularly care about the barrage of down votes. I was being objective. I literally just presented facts. People can take that how they will

Nobody faults you for being objective, I think it’s that most of what you said wasn’t factual.

I've been speculating this for a long time. I said I bet he's been offered contracts but he wants more money and didn't take the offers.

Your facts were off, so that's not quite so.

Sure, you likely got some downvotes because some folks will downvote anything that isn't bashing Kaep, but you likely also got downvotes because partially you gave out incorrect info and also info that was maybe technically true, but it didn't present the actual situation correctly.

Haven't we known since that time that Denver made an offer?

Or was it just that it was reported by sources and this is a story because Elway is putting his name on it?

Of the two “facts” you presented, one was irrelevant and the other was wrong.

Kaepernick to take a paycut and make less money than he did that year with the 49ers

He opted out, now he was going to get cut with his salary number anyway but 1 is greater than 0

I'm still trying to figure out how Kaep would have been "stupid" to take the paycut but Kaep opted out, so...

He will never get paid like a starter again. If he doesn't accept backup pay then that is his problem.

So pretty sure no one offering you a contract and no one willing to pay you what you want to be paid, ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT

Exactly. I just wonder how many times he has actually been offered a contract over the last two years.

Maybe... I haven't followed too closely, but I never heard he was actually offered a contract from anywhere. Only that he had met with teams.

I have long speculated that teams were willing to sign him as a backup or for X amount of money and he declined because he was holding out for a starter role and/or more money, all the while playing the victim.

Because what would happen is it would be reported that he met with a team. Then the team would sign some random backup QB for peanuts and all the talking heads would lose their shite about how they signed this nobody over Kaepernick. And I'm thinking yeah, and that nobody is only getting paid peanuts. Kaepernick probably wanted way more money than they were willing to spend.

Which lead me to believe that it's not that he wasn't getting offers... he just wasn't getting the offers HE wanted.

I don't remember him ever actually being offered a contract in Denver.

That being said, kind of weird timing for Elway to drop this tidbit of news now.

Colin Kaepernick is willing to take a pay cut to play for the Denver Broncos, just not one as large as the reigning Super Bowl champions would like.

The Broncos are offering Kaepernick an annual salary of $7 million for the 2016 season and the 2017 season, a source close to the situation told CSNBayArea.com on Tuesday.

Kaepernick and the Broncos have "made progress" on a contract that would run through 2020, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Monday. But the finances over the first two years are not favorable for Kaepernick. Agreeing to Denver's offer would cost the 28-year-old quarterback $12.4 million in base salary, and potentially as much as $16.2 million, over the next two years. His current contract with the 49ers pays a base salary of $11.9 million for the 2016 season and $14.5 million in 2017.

Even if the 49ers were to release Kaepernick before April 1 of next year, the quarterback could earn up to $14.3 million in 2016 -- more than the $14 million he would earn in two years with Denver. Kaepernick would consider a deal with the Broncos that is slightly under his salary with the 49ers, according to the source.

But Kaepernick “made his statement” regarding Denver’s current offer by reporting to San Francisco’s offseason program. Kaepernick flew from Denver to the Bay Area late Sunday night after meeting with Broncos officials and arrived in time for the Monday morning start to the 49ers offseason program. The 49ers quarterback will receive a $400,000 workout bonus for 90 percent participation in San Francisco's voluntary offseason program. He spent the majority of his first day under Chip Kelly’s tenure in meetings with new quarterbacks coach, Ryan Day, and offensive coordinator, Curtis Modkins.

A trade between the 49ers and Broncos is still a possibility, but the discrepancy in salary would have to be settled by the teams. Kaepernick and the 49ers are at odds, specifically over the diagnosis of injuries he sustained during the 2015 season, but the 49ers are not willing to pay the $4.9 million difference in salary in 2016 to send Kaepernick to Denver.

Thanks, I thought I had heard that before.

But the new story is just Elway putting his name on it now.
