Elway on Kaepernick as an option for a vet backup QB spot: “Colin had his chance here. We offered him a contract. He didn’t take it. So, As I said it in my deposition, I don’t know if i’ll be legally able to say this, but he’s had his chance to be here. He passed it"

That's going to hurt the narrative.

I’d assume a few teams offered him as a backup at a minimum.

This was before the anthem protest and required Kaepernick to take a paycut and make less money than he did that year with the 49ers. Its not news and he'd have been stupid to do it.

Coming out with this right now is actually adding fuel to Kaepernick collusion case fire. Not a great decision by Elway to tweet this

He was never going to get that money again. I don’t see why this is relevant.

Also to this point, he had interviews with both SEA and BAL last year, and iirc the Ravens were ready to sign him until he backed out.

Kaepernick is gonna be 57 years old and people are still gonna bitch that no team is signing him.

He was definitely on the 49ers when he protested, so you're completely wrong about that.

EDIT: As the story unfolds, details have emerged that the Broncos had set up a trade with the 49ers to acquire Kaepernick, but wanted him to reduce his salary by up to 42% or something to that affect. Kaepernick declined, thus rendering him a useless trade piece to any team that wasn't willing to overpay for a QB that had obviously regressed. I'm not sure exactly when this happened, but I am aware that his first "protest" was in the preseason, while he was sitting on the bench where he belonged.

Yeah I'm not understanding Elways play here. Not understanding the downvotes you are getting too for adding facts and context to the statement.

Do we know the details of the contract? I slightly remember Denver offering him significantly less. But I don't remember the actual number.

If I remember correctly Kaep was riding the pine behind freaking Blaine Gabbert when all this sitting/kneeling BS began.

Idk why his kneeling would make him a better football player deserving of a starters job and salary

It was after.

Technically correct. But the alternative that he knew would happen was he'd be cut and make no money, so indirectly it would not have been a paycut because it would have been a job making more than $0.

He'd be stupid to take a job making money instead of getting cut and making no money if his goal was to play and make money?

How? It's saying he could have had a job in 2017 but chose not to.

Maybe i’m Dumb as shite, but how does a team offering him a contract throw fuel on the fire of a collusion case trying to say teams blackballed him from possibly receiving a contract
