ESPN has sources.

This is an absolute joke. This rule is beyond stupid. Why allow a team to compete in an fbs conference in a transition year of you aren't going to allow them to compete in the conference championship game?

Legitimately keeping them from a shot at a conference title and NY6 birth they deserve.

JMU and Jax State could still get bowl slots as replacement teams if there aren't enough 6-6 teams but there are a lot bigger prizes JMU has a right to compete for

Update: Virginia AG is threatening Antitrust suit

Frick the NCAA

They’re flexing what minuscule power they still have on this stupid issue

The kids worked hard and kicked arse all season. You’re punishing them for no reason at all.

How about reward their hard work? They have earned it.

Frick you NCAA. You’re the worst.

They ought to schedule and independent bowl game against a solid P5 with 5-7 record like Nebraska and call it and 'exhibition bowl'

This happened to GA Southern but at least they were able to still win their conference since the Sun Belt didn't have title game yet.

They had 2 options before the season started.

1. Schedule a 13th regular season game against Hawaii (obviously in Hawaii).
2. Schedule a 13th regular season game in Puerto Rico against Jacksonville St.

There's technically a 3rd option (playing another team in Alaska as a 13th game) but I don't think that would be a popular choice.

It’s a relic of a rule but had reasoning.

Previously only way you could transfer and be immediately eligible was if you transferred to 1aa.

Theoretically could game the system-could transfer in spring become immediately eligible and then the school moves up.

Dumb but had a reason.

At least we got Fairley Dickinson beating Purdue in March Madness (FDU was only in the tournament because their conference champ had just transitioned from D2).

It’s one thing if you want them not to be eligible for the conf champ game (I get that) but it’s absolutely ludicrous they can’t go to one of these meaningless bowl games that are all but dying out with advent of new playoffs

While it's not a lock it's a fairly good bet there will be at least 2-4 slots for 5-7 teams this year so they will end up in bowls.

Wait, so they can't play in a bowl........ Unless there aren't enough teams and it's convenient for the NCAA.

A Puerto Rico bowl sounds a hell of alot better than 80% of traditional bowl games.

Still applies for a second-time transfer. Not sure if that is the reason?

Rules are rules JMU knew when they transitioned into FBS but I agree it’s a dumb rule they’ve gained no advantage by moving up to FBS the rule needs to be changed

They have given a waiver in the second year before. They are going to get sued. College game day at jmu is going to be lit

Only point of comparison we have is South Alabama.

JMU beat them 31-23

Tulane beat them 37-17
