Dude hit 37 homers one year, playing half his games in the Astrodome. Legit power.

DAMN, my favorite player as a kid !!!!! Sad to hear. I still have the Toy Cannon pictures and posters at my parents' home. Apollo 13 was just on the other day and I glanced up at the part when Jimmy hit the homerun while they were watching at Mission Control.

RIP to my childhood favorite !

Found this gem on Twitter:

12/6/73: In a swap of veteran All-Stars, the Astros trade OF Jimmy Wynn to the Dodgers for P Claude Osteen.

Wynn led the Dodgers to the NL pennant in 1974, topping club w 32 HR, 108 RBI, 104 runs scored. Osteen managed just 9 wins for Houston before being traded before end of the season

Wynn knew how to wear a baseball uniform. Look at those stirrups!

Was the first of many reasons why I always HATED the Dodgers. Even pulled for the Evil Empire in '77 and '78 against those bums.

# 32 Jim Umbricht,,Colt 45s,
died of cancer before the Astros ever played

so technically the first ASTRO was
#40 Don Wilson, Carbon Monoxide poisoning
I remember going to the game when they retired his jersey

Anybody else remember the seat down the LF line in the upper deck of the Astrodome that had the toy cannon painted in it?

It was the seat where one of his HR balls landed.

When my dad told me that as a kid and I looked at it through binoculars, I was blown away.
