Anyone who knows me growing up playing QB in high school knows that Jim McMahon was my boy. I got to meet him in 1990 when the Eagles played in Dallas.

He is by far one of the coolest people ever!

If you know the story behind this picture you know how cool it was:

And then this past week:

Happy Birthday Jim!

One of the great characters in NFL history… I’m stil pissed at Charles Martin for slamming Jim to the ground. Should have been kicked out of league for life. There is no telling what might have happened had Jim not got hurt….

It's a great pic, and he wasn't just being a troll. One of the reasons McMahon wore it was because the '85 Bears had their White House invitation canceled due to the Challenger disaster. He figured it might be the only opportunity to represent his old team there.

The '85 Bears eventually got invited back by Obama, which was kind of bittersweet since Payton and Dave Duerson were obviously gone already, and Dan Hampton refused to show up.

Because of the Space Shuttle Challenger accident the 1985 Bears trip to the White House got canceled in January 1986.

The team finally went when Obama was President.

Jim wore his Bears Jersey to Honor his teammates that did NOT get to go.

Even greater because you have Halmgren, Clinton, Favre, and White all in the photo as well!

Its what made me a fan. I was a fan of Walter Payton...literally my whole life. I was 3 years old when my Dad and Grandfather took me and my older brother to our 1st Saints game in 1975...against the Chicago Bears...Walter Payton was a Rookie.

I have spotty memories of that day! But the main memory was my Grandfather talking about how good Walter Payton was.

I have told this before but for the new people on TD...my Grandfather is the one who came up with the cheer..."Hot Boudin...cold Couscous..."

Especially after his outstanding interview in the '85 Bears 30 for 30. Crazy that was in 2016. This is a photo of him in 2019. So damn awful how fast that disease progresses.

He had an eye injury (true story) and he was probably high as hell (true story).

I was friends with his former Eagles roommate Roger Ruzek.

How in the world did they let Miami derail their perfect season? Still hard to believe.
