I guess it depends on the statute of limitations.

What do you mean? He would have gone to jail for rape, likely done a few years and most likely not have a football career. HUGE gamble on her part if she was all about extorting him for money.

Again, if that was her plan and it panned out as I just stated, she blew her shot.... She wouldn't be able to run the same scam on another athlete.

Again, I'm not saying that she isn't trying to extort money from him now... We don't know. I"m just saying that if she is, she is an opportunist, not this person with a well thought out plan.

This just sounds like a situation where each side was a POS and it was made worse by an inept police department

I see this thread got derailed fast. So back on track

1) JWs lawyer called to offer a settlement: How do we know that? Because Jansen was JWs lawyer. This Cornwell guy came from outta nowhere to contact the victims offering a settlement. He even flew in from ATL to meet with them.

2) Seems like JW may be in big trouble: How do we know this? Obviously the 7 mil offer was not a serious offer. The Title IX lawyers knew this, and just wanted to gauge how desperate JWs lawyer was. Now they know that he is very desperate

3) The victim did not ask for or initiate the Title IX investigation: How do we know this? She was asked to cooperate by FSU, after a 2nd victim accused JW of sexual misconduct

Meet JWs new lawyer. Well, technically, hes just advising the family. But its certain, that hes out of his depths. Hes a sports agent. lol
quote:

David Cornwell is a partner in the Sports, Media and Entertainment practice in the firm’s Atlanta office

quote:

Mr. Cornwell began his 25-year career in sports by joining the National Football League in 1987 as Assistant League Counsel, representing former Commissioners Pete Rozelle, and Paul Tagliabue. During his five-year tenure as NFL counsel, he represented the Commissioner’s office in numerous business affairs, including the antitrust lawsuits

quote:

Mr. Cornwell also served as Vice President and General Counsel for the Upper Deck Company, Upper Deck International, and Upper Deck Authenticated.

quote:

including serving as a Legal Analyst during the Michael Vick dog fighting case

And we saw how that turned out

I just read David Cornwell's Bio and don't know if this has been addressed, but who is paying his fees.

Nothing he posted in his recap is known. So you should pretty much ignore it. Actually some it is made up completely

That's according the the victims new lawyer, don't know if it's true yet

They weren't her lawyer at the time of this supposed 7m settlement talk

This is the only thing that looks to be true thus far

If Cornwell is an agent, could this be seen as illegal contact with a sports agent?

Interesting question... However, has he ever acted as an agent for someone? I see he was an analyst for Vick, but that doesn't mean he was his agent.

Yes I will admit im wrong. Why wouldnt I? I still dont think TMZ obtained the information through the lawyer

Why not? Cornhole seems like as big an idiot as his client. And he has taken to twitter with his stupid crap. Twitter to TMZ isn't that big of a jump.

ESPN is 10000000 times bigger. If you have to chose who to leak info to, it makes zero sense not to go toward a bigger and more credible company(i hate ESPN but they are looked at as way more REPUTABLE then TMZ)

Yes but ESPN would have said it obtained the letter from Cornwell.

- Someone leaks info to TMZ (quite possibly Winstons attorney) claiming the accuser's attorney called Winstons attorney and demanded $7m or they would go to the media with the story (this was long after criminal investigation was botched). Also claimed that the attorney said "she doesn't even date black guys, so that's how you know it was rape"
- accusers new attorney, who is representing her in the title IX investigation, releases a statement saying it was Winstons attorney who reached out to the accusers attorney trying to sweep this under the rug. Also said that it was Winstons attorney who made negotiations unbearable and her attorney never made the black guy comment
- Winstons attorney takes to Twitter and goes off the deep end
- It's also stated the the only reason this has come back up is that there was apparently another girl who sought counseling after a sexual encounter with Winston. She claims it wasn't rape, but whatever took place was unpleasant. The univeristy then reached out to the accuser to see if she would cooperate.

It sounds like this new attorney for Winston took matters into his own hands in order to gain favor with the Winstons so they'd go with him when Jameis goes pro.
