i just dont understand being ok with being called a bust.
hell even Leaf tried to play elsewhere (dallas)
wouldnt you try your hardest to get in shape and try and get on somewhere, even in canada (which would probably suit his game much more)

saw him the other day at a subway in br. fwiw he looked like he has slimmmed down and is getting in shape. that is definitely and old picture in the op. I know csb

He has to be considered the #1 bust of all time. Ryan Leaf sucked and all, but he was the #2 pick and got another shot. Also when you look at how much money Russel got paid...yeesh.
And I'll throw my name in the hat for people who thought he had a high bust potential. I remember watching him in college and he was so big and strong that he'd fling the ball with a defender draped on him. Knew one couldn't do that in the pros. Also, people were talking about his commitment to football after getting paid.

I was young when he was in college and knew nothing about evaluating players (still dont know much) but I remember watching him one time and thinking that he had a great arm but was too stupid (on the field) to be a great player.

His drug habit had a major role to play in him failing he had the tools now the smarts and quick decision making I dont have a clue about cause never dealt with him but he was the modern day version of Jeff George when it came to physical talents
