Top free agents and their agents were like, "Red Sox win, WE ALL WIN." Call Cash. Let's go get some of that Yankee caish.

Les has lost control of the Red Sox

He's not Johnny Satan Damon, he's always had a foot out the door. Thanks for the years and championships Taco. If the Yankees somehow weasel out of ARods contract, and pay Cano, there will be gaping holes at third and starting pitching. Sox have plenty of talent, pitching, a deep roster, and a fricking loaded farm system... I'm not worried.

No more rivalries anywhere in the game. No team loyalty. Just a fantasy draft every offseason. It fricking sucks

haha. I thought I was the only one who still called him that. Gonna miss him for sure (the wife will miss him more, lol) but seven years for that kind of cash is insane, and I'm glad the Red Sox didn't pay it. Hopefully JBJ can step up and help fill the void.

When he's 37 making over $20M this contract will be so bad
All contracts at 37 are bad except for David Ortiz.

Ellsbury is gonna love that porch in RF the same way Granderson did. He might hit 30 again
He's had 4 in new Yankee Stadium in his career in 144 AB's, and all 4 were in his only double-digit HR year (32 in 2011) - which means he had no HR's in YS in 102 AB's in his other years. Based upon his 577 total AB's in 2013, that would be 8 HR's at home per year playing in YS. If you use his career-high number of AB's, 660, that still only projects to 9 per year at Yankee Stadium. Going to have to hit a bunch on the road to get to 30.

Johnny Damon
4 years with Sox: .295/.362/.441
4 years with Yanks: .285/.363/.458
Of course as he aged he declined in the field which is a big part of why his WAR went down. However, he hit just as well with Yanks and actually stole only 5 less bases despite playing in 21 less games. So yes he was just as good with Yankees as with the Red Sox.
That being said this is still a horrible contract and Yankees are banking on ARod being suspended. I'm awaiting to see Brett Gardner traded for Brett Anderson or in some package for Chase Headley

So your lineup would be
Ellsbury
Jeter
Cano
Tex
Headley
McCann
Ichiro
Random LF
Random DH (Honestly, whoever of the old guys feels the worst)
CC
Nova?

CC
Nova
Kuroda
Phelps
And Yankees are looking at trading for Anderson of the A's
Or roll with Warren/Nuno who both had a few starts last year.
I still think Yankees win rights to Tanaka as well so he would slide in obviously
Line up would be
CF: Ellsbury
SS: Jeter
2B: Cano
1B: Tex
C: McCann
3B: Headley
RF: Wells/Soriano
DH: Soriano/Wells
LF: Ichiro
Nova
