I acknowledged the injuries earlier and I don't really disagree much of what you're saying. In fact, I've kind of already said he's overpaid. With that said, I'll disagree that it isn't an area of need. They lost Granderson, Ichiro is old, and Soriano isn't a good fielder(and he's old).
The Yankees have a ton of money to spend. Overpaying Ellsbury isn't going to stop them from buying/trading for whomever they decide to pursue.

His lefty-righty splits are almost even. I think at the stadium he hits 20+ hrs and may bat 3rd with Gardner leading off.2 other notes: Crawford signed with a team that didn't fit his talents and Brett Gardner missed more games than Ellsbury the last 3 years.

Jacoby Ellsbury agrees to free-agent deal with Yankees for 7 years, more than $142 million
That might be the worst contract I've ever seen. How do you give that much money to a guy who's had an OPS+ above 100 only two times over his entire career?

I'm sure its already been posted, but obviously Boras was out for years not mil because what he took in New York is only marginally more than what Boston offered him. If we was 27-29 I could see the Rangers offering seven years, but for someone who's already 30, JD has a tendency to only offer 6 years. 6 years 120 mil would've been my top offer
eta: having said that, I was really hoping the Rangers would make a run at him. Having his and Fielders bat in a right field porch stadium, not to mention his speed mixed in with Martin, Andrus, profar, Rios etc. etc. Would've been a good way to make up for power deficiency

It seems like an slight overpay to me, but runs created (or saved) by defense and baserunning count too. Ellsbury had a pretty fantastic year last year.

But by the time he's in his mid 30s his defense will likely take a huge drop. When he's 37 making over $20M this contract will be so bad

You don't give players whose main attributes are speed and defense $153 million. For that kind of money, they need to be elite offensive players and Ellsbury is very pedestrian with the bat. It's a terrible contract.

If they're under 30 you can, but not at 30

I think you are going a little overboard with both those statements.

So he'll be just as good as he was in Boston, if not slightly better? Works for me.

Was Damon as good with the yanks as he was for the sox?

Ok. Johnny has one of the greatest all time world series rings after leading the sox back from 0-3 against the yankees in the ALCS. Oh, and he has a 'tainted' championship with the yankees in '09. Look it up.

He was better in Boston, there really is no debate.

09 was tainted?
Does he not realize the biggest bats in Boston's lineup when they won a championship were PED users??
