It's time to move the hash marks back to where they matter again.

Get back to the roots of the game.

How about letting the defense try to block kicks again?

Also, do you think that the increase in popularity of soccer for kids in the last 30 years has helped develop these kickers?

I think there’s a direct correlation with how great kickers are today and the fact that all of these kickers probably started playing soccer when they were toddlers.
Possibly. However, I think the bigger impact has just been the ultra-specialization from early ages. Travel ball. Crazy parents. Money ball effect. College costs going way up. etc.

Kickers were an under-appreciated value play for decades.

I would be down for that. Even field goals 50+ yards are basically automatic. I prefer how it is in most highschools. Where kicking a field goal is more of a 50/50 thing, so coaches are a lot more creative with playcalling and much more willing to go for it.

In the NFL, once you get past the 50, you're in field goal range. At the end of games, most teams are getting the ball at the 30 with a kickoff. All they have to do is drive about 30 yards, and it's damn near a sure thing that they will win the game now. It's such an anti-climactic ending that I really hate. Once the other team lines up for a field goal, it's basically a foregone conclusion that the game is over and you lost.

I'd 100% be down for narrowing the goalposts to make it more entertaining.

Leave them where they are but if the Kicker can put it through the uprights on kickoff give them +1 points to make it a chance at a 2pt conversion. Then you could potentially have a team be down 9 and tie it up. Or if your kicker was good at it you could go for 2 most of the time and still maybe get 7 if you fail on the 2pt

I think they should get rid of kicks for scoring altogether.

What? It's so bizarrely incongruent with the game itself. And the players appear to almost all have outward contempt for the position.

I don't see how anyone can like last minute TD drives basically requiring leaving less than 10 seconds on the clock since kickers are so insanely long now.

We would probably have a lot of posters here that would try to argue kickers used to be better back in the day if the stats weren’t so damning

The less time left on a game winning play, the more dramatic it is… think of the difference between scoring with 30 seconds left, and scoring with 5 seconds left
