I don't like guys having a reserved starting spot. The fastest cars should make the race, no matter who gets butthurt.
And if someone wants to park it 30 laps in, that's fine with me too. NASCAR shouldn't be telling anyone how to run their race.

I also like the older graphic at the top of the screen as well. It’s easier to read.

Indycar is a superior, less watered-down product these days. Racing in general is in the decline all around. Changes in the automotive industry (electrification) will hasten the decline over the next decade. I hate to see it but fear it’s true.

Did you win a Daytona 500 in the 90's?

None of the above..... Doug Reid from Hueytown AL. I didn’t make the race, and it may have been 96 but I’m pretty sure it was 95. I was running the full BGN series with MedPartners as a sponsor in 1997 until they had financial trouble. I ran a few more races in 97-2001 in my own car and I ran a handful of races for Ed Whittaker out of Bristol VA. Mostly ran ARCA races that I could afford until I retired. I broke my back in 99 at BGN race in Milwaukee on July 4th weekend, raced a few months later at Charlotte because I didn’t listen to the doctors and ended up having a lot of problems later. Young and dumb...

I don’t have any beef with NASCAR, but someone has royally fricked up the sport. There used to be household names. Jeff Gordon, Dale, Mark Martin, Rusty Wallace, Tony Stewart, the Labonte brothers, etc. I never even really watched races, but could still remember who drove which car. It was all good marketing and presence on TV. It’s just not there anymore.

I think cable television and the internet and the increasing variety of entertainment options is more to blame for the decline in NASCAR interest. When I was a kid, I used to watch the Indy 500 and some of the NASCAR races because there was really nothing else on television to watch. Now, I can’t fathom ever doing that because there are so many other better things I can do with my free time. And I’m sure there are many other people like me.

This seems like a lifetime ago:

Yeah, NASCAR panned out like the NFL and Tom Brady.

I never knew we had someone who actually raced in NASCAR that posts here. That's awesome!

Awesome, I don’t think I have any pictures of the 78 car. That was my own car I ran in a ARCA race at Daytona and Talladega. I think that’s actually Juan Montoya in the 4 car driving for Gannassi. He ran several ARCA races when he first tried stock car racing. If you don’t mind me asking, where did you find those?

That 78 car came from Hendricks, it actually got destroyed in the last speedway race I ran at Talladega... in a crash started by none other than Juan Pablo Montoya.

I appreciate it, it’s crazy how much I forgot about......
But maybe it was the concussions...

I believe that 39 car was at Talladega right after 9-11. It was ugly.....and I was asked to run the #39 by the Roulo Brothers who usually fielded cars for Ken Scrader. They were running for points and didn't make the race so I ran their number for them. Not that it helped much, I believe Bobby Hamilton Jr. came off pit road under caution and took out myself and a few others..... That happened a lot in ARCA.

The blue #5 is my dad at Birmingham International Raceway in 1978. He had some great looking late model cars. I will have to dig up a few pictures. The Chevelles and Camaros back then made good looking racecars.

Dave Mader in the Red #18 is still racing, He ran the ARCA race yesterday at Daytona.

Thanks, it was definitely a great time in my life. The late 90's in NASCAR was when it was at it's peak. I had several close friends get killed racing.
Blaise Alexander, Kenny Erwin, Adam Petty. It would be tough for me to continue to do it now even if I were able because of my wife and kids.....

But I enjoyed it while I could
