What sets Polamalu apart?

He once dove over the line of scrimmage timing the snap on MNF.

Being NFL All Decade 1st team is a pretty good indicator of getting in.

If you look at All Decade Teams from 70s , 80s 90s and 2000s, everyone is 100% in with the exception of kickers punters and fullbacks.

80s

90s

2000s

3 Time First Team All Pro
NFL All-2010s Decade Team

I’d say more deserving in relation to how he ranks among his position than other players who are already in or will eventually get in.

Though amongst DBs, it’s an absolutely shame that Lester Hayes, Deron Cherry and Joey Browner still haven’t been voted in. They should get in.

found out that a player being an all-pro but not a pro-bowler in the same year is much more common than I would have expected.

Over the past 10 years the pro bowl has become a popularity contest. That’s why I like to count All Pro selections, and also for if someone is HOF worthy, being named to the All Decade team for your era is also a pretty big positive in favor.

And quite a few 2nd teams too, but not Hayes, Browner and Cherry.

It’s close.
Obviously not a first ballot guy but he’s one that could maybe/maybe not make it after being on the ballot a few years.

Mathieu's NFL career gets dinged because of what he was in college. The first thing anyone brings up about his career is 2011, nothing he could do in the NFL could compare the "ball so hard" highlight tape

He was a beast on the 2019 Chiefs

No but Godamn was he a force in 2011. Best defensive player I’ve ever seen in terms of changing games

Surprised at how many people are a flat out no. The more I look at the stats, the more I lean yes.

Polamalu only having 12 sacks is kind of surprising. I feel like i saw him fly over the LOS and decapitate QBs 4-5 times a year.

Only being a three time pro bowler hurts him. I'm 50/50

Ed Reed only had 6 sacks, despite highlights of being behind the line and causing disruption. Rod Woodson had 13.5 sacks, but none after converting to safety. 15.5 of Charles Woodson’s 20 sacks came from seasons where he was starting at corner rather than safety.

He’s on the All Decade team. I think a lot of LSU fans discount his NFL career because he didn’t have the highlights he had in college. But it’s NFL people thought he was one of the handful of DB’s from 2010-2020

Apparently pro bowls are voted by the fans, but all pro is voted by the players they line up against: Oline votes for Dline, Wrs vote on DBs, DBs vote on WRs, etc. QBs vote for all defensive positions. I learned this from Flynn on the radio this morning.

So all pro is much more impressive.

Pro bowls are a useless stat. Fan voted and half the players don’t show up which means there’s like 5 pro bowlers at every position

HOF selectors go by All-Pro; no committee member places their weight on Pro Bowls when arguing for a player's inclusion.
