Sure you do

but im not going to sit here and just say "he is or isnt something" and leave it at that without any facts to support my claim like you are doing right now.
Sub .280 career hitter, took 25 years to get to 3000 hits as a lead off hitter. Only a few gold gloves and 3 silver sluggers. Sorry, that ain’t top 8. He was the best base runner of all time which is reflected in the records he holds. But there is a hell of a lot more to being in that top 8 category than that

I find it weird that using a computer to bring facts and numbers to an argument is seen as a negative.

Believe he meant dead ball in regards to home runs. Babe was hitting more home runs than entire teams were back then.
Some of y’all are way to beholden to your little “all encompassing” stat measurements like WAR and PER yet ignore the human bias/formulas that go into them.
They only measure that the player record the statistic, not how/when/why. There’s a big difference in a player getting a walk and then a steal in the 9th inning of a game when his team is down 1-0 with no outs compared to the same stat record in the 9th inning of a 8-2 game. There’s no differentiation in the formulas for that.
When/how you put up your production is more important than what your box score looks like.

It’s seen as a negative when all people know how to do is recite WAR as if it’s infallible. It’s an algorithm created by a human. It’s a tool not the final arbiter, but that’s how it’s used in almost every debate on here when discussing how good a player is. So yeah, I find that weird and lazy

I mean he cited WAR amongst other stats. And WAR is a valid stat for these types of discussions, but it’s not like he used it a final arbiter.

Kind of hard to get a lot of hits when you get walked a lot.
And no shite he didn’t get a lot of Silver Sluggers, those almost always go to power hitters/rbi guys. Ain’t no slugging involved in stealing bases.

Look out. Next thing you know he will be calling you an intellectually dishonest faux intellectual incapable of caring about anything

It’s even worse for baseball because there are what like 4-5 different WARs out there right now? It’s a joke.
Analytics guys are ruining sports. People aren’t formulas and numbers on a sheet and they don’t understand that. Especially in a game like baseball. Weather, wind, umpire discrepancies/consistency, and a host of other factors and these idiots think they know it all?
frick outta here.

Eh, not really. And it's not harder to have a better batting average

what's that? I guess we've entered the part of the thread where you don't actually say anything.
