A greater win be actually winning a trophy.

60 points on 50 shots in an almost literally meaningless game to bring the Lakers to a 17-65 record, coming dead last in the West.

Guy was playing for a team with less than 20 wins. He shot the ball in normal Kobe style, and kept shooting. Kobe is one of the best 10-15 players to ever step on the court, but how many guys on the court last night couldn't have scored 50+ while taking 50 shots.

When he scored 81, he took 4 less shots. Let that sink in. It was a good ending, but come on

These are very Kobe-homerish statements. Not everyone gives a frick about Kobe or his retirement. I did not watch because life happens in between and during his games. So frick Kobe and you too!

Ted Williams hit a homer in his last at-bat.

Babe Ruth hit three homers in his last game.

ETA: Just double-checked, and Ruth did NOT homer three times in his last game. Mea culpa.

The way he played and completely carried his team to a win was amazing and felt like I was in a time machine. Guy was the best player on the court even at 37.
His last game was a regular season game, so no.

Hmmm, that's not what I saw. They won that game in spite of him if anything. Even with his 60 and them funneling him the ball they were barely up. I even think Utah took it easy on him a little. They smashed the Lakers the previous two games. What the frick else were they going to do, they were out of the playoffs by tip-off anyway and would catch hell for embarrassing him on this night.

That said, no one will remember what actually went on in the game. They'll just remember the 60 and that's good for everyone.

Are you fricking high? Kobe outscored the Jazz in the 4th quarter and scored something like the teams last 13 out of 17 points.

As a Laker fan you couldn't ask for a better ending to his career. In front of everyone who has been there since the beginning. Fish, Shaq, Horry, Payton, Odom, etc. He balled out. I hope y'alls kids were watching that because that was the epitome of leaving it all on the court. He gave every single bit of energy he had left in that game. Obviously, knowing it is the end of your career helps since he knows he won't have to play another game, but if seeing that didn't give you chills:

Nobody should care how many shots he took. The fans and his teammates wanted him to take every shot. You think D'Angelo Russell is going to tell his kids "Yeah guys I scored 9 points in Kobe's last game"? No he's going to tell them about one of the greatest basketball players of all time going out with 60 points including the go ahead basket in the last minute of the game.

He's the only person at his age to score 60 points in a game and his team needed every point.

I think if the Jazz really cared to they could've smashed the Lakers, just like they did the previous two games.

I watched the D they played on him. I can't be convinced that they were actually trying to stop him.

You said they won "in spite of him". You are wrong, and there are no two ways about it.

Sure.

But by the same token, if you watched that game and truly think it's the GOAT final performance in a career, I also feel sorry for you.

That game was awesome to watch, but it's not at the top of that list, get outta here with that.

Right.

It was a spectacle, no doubt about that. But it was a completely manufactured spectacle. Everyone knew that if Kobe was going to have one last "Kobe" performance, it would be in his last game, and everyone around him (opponent included) would do everything they could to make it happen.

The best equivalent I can come up with is Peyton Manning throwing for 5 TDs and 450 yards on 70 attempts in a win to get his team to 4-12.

And calling it the greatest end to a historic career.

44%, outscored the Jazz in the 4th, scored 17 straight to take the lead, didn't miss a shot in those 17.

Boston as a team shot 43% last night, and won.
