Corey Kluber usually strikes me as one of the most high variance aces. He will blow the frick up on occasion. But Sale has had his fair share lately.

Kluber is a good mention.

I'll throw Strasburg's name into the ring.

When you blow up nearly every start, I don't think you are classified as an ace.

He was vulnerable during his last start in the early innings against the Astros. Left plenty of balls up.

As for Sale, he has talked about adopting a more pitch to contact approach this year and the numbers support that he has. I think it is time to scrap that plan.

This is hard pressed to be called a blow up. He's a great pitcher.

If by "blows up", you mean he acts like a lunatic when he's not pitching well, then yes. One of his starts I was at this year, he started hitting himself in the head with the ball after some early walks.

However, there was some local talk in the offseason about him tipping pitches when he doesn't have his best stuff. Don't know how true it is, but Steve Stone and an ESPN article both hinted at it earlier this year.

That was the first pitcher who came to mind for me. I would also say Stephen Strasburg before this year. He always seems to have five or six starts a season where he completely blows up.
