Is there a better Heisman finalist class than the one from 1997?

Throwing Ryan Leaf, one of the great busts in NFL history, by the way side.
Three future first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Famers were also invited to New York that year:
- Charles Woodson (WINNER)
- Peyton Manning (Runner-Up)
- Randy Moss (Fourth in Voting)

I love how Moss kept his sunglasses on the entire time. Moss is/was, undoubtedly, my favorite of the four up there…

That finalist class 1982 with Hershel, Elway and Dickerson was very good.

It is an all time class for sure. Only other two up there are 56 and 82.
82 had Herschel Walker, John Elway, and Eric Dickerson
56 had Paul Hornung, John Majors, and Jim Brown
Some other great ones:
88 had Barry Sanders, Rodney Peete, and Troy Aikman
2015 had Derrick Henry, Christian McCaffery, and Deshaun Watson
2010 had Cam Newton and Andrew Luck
83 had Mike Rozier, Steve Young and Doug Flutie
70 had Jim Plunkett, Joe Theismann, and Archie Manning
44 had Doak Walker and Chuck Bednarik
66 had Steve Spurrier and Bob Griese
82 had Herschel Walker, John Elway, and Eric Dickerson

80 had Marcus Allen, Herschel Walker, Jim McMahon, and Marino.
I mean 00 had Weinke, Josh Heupel, Brees, and LT. Weinke was a pro bust but a pretty great college player and Heupel likely will be better known for his coaching career than his playing career. But Brees and LT are all time greats.
Hard to believe those two guys were in the same backfield in San Diego and won nothing there.

1993 was the best:
1 Charlie Ward Florida State
2 Heath Shuler Tennessee
3 David Palmer Alabama
4 Marshall Faulk San Diego

Maybe he should’ve been in NY, but he wasn’t robbed. Did nothing of note besides eat up yards in nothing games. In his biggest game of the year, Buga had 31 yards on 19 carries. that’s why he wasn’t in NY

Where’s Lorenzo White? I remember his mom clearing off the fireplace mantelpiece for his trophy. Kinda sad in retrospect.

Ryan Leaf has done more for himself and community than you ever will. He had an addiction and it could have ruined his life but has turned it around and has become successful and seems like a good dude.
