Only by one game so far though

And they weren't coughing up any $20 million extension for that.

Because he's not doing any better. Certainly not worth a $3 million and escalating contract

Who thought he is a better coach? I don't get your point. When a coach quits, sometimes you can't find/hire somebody as good. So you get somebody not as good. I don't get why him not being as successful as Tuberville is a black eye for him. They hired him based on potential. They are banking on him learning and becoming a great coach. Isn't he like the 3rd youngest HC ever?

3M a year barely cracks the top 20 among head coaches and he maxes out at 4M, which wouldn't even make the top 5 now, much less 5 years from now. He is bringing in millions in donations and even more in publicity. The school isn't suffering at all.

We have no way of knowing he's loyal since his loyalty hasn't been tested. Not saying he's not but there's no way to know one way or the other. As for being "smart", if you say so

He is alumni and totally dedicated to the school. Even people that don't like him acknowledge that. Also, he is very smart. He won a graduate scholarship and was an academic all American. Plus his assistant career was pretty heralded.

Style over substance then.

Fluff matters. The point is making money and the guy does that for the University. Maybe it does flame out, but the school should ride it as long as it can. He'll only be young and good looking for awhile. If he can't grind out more wins, he'll be gone eventually. I just don't know why they would want to pull the plug now..

Texas Tech is stuck with Lubbock. That's the bottom line.

But Tech had 611 yards and 59 points. Pretty much the script for a big 12 team.

Huh, I wonder what that's like

Baker Mayfield made a great move to leave Texas Tech for Oklahoma.

So are they still stuck with him? He has the team 3-0 and they just won a game on the road where they were double digit underdogs. Now they are going to play two top 5 teams at home back-to-back. If they win either one, it will be probably the biggest win in school history..

Guess you forgot about beating Texas when they were #1 with Crabtree and crew?

It'll be hard to beat Texas in '08

They're probably still a 6-6 team.

Being double digit dogs to a team that just lost to Toledo ain't a great sign for the program either.

You think that is bigger? That team was ranked #7 and had a big star in Crabtree. Plus they played a ton of big games that season. I'm guessing they still won't be ranked next week and will be playing a top 3 team. It should be another double digit spread. So it would be a pretty huge upset..

You're right though. That game was pretty historic. Would be hard to top..

The heat will be on Kingsbury next week if he can't beat a team missing 8 defensive starters at home
