Is NBA basketball on Christmas Day the worst forced tradition in sports?

It's just one of 82 regular season basketball games, or does it represent something greater like the "official" start to the regular season?

I ask this because I keep seeing ridiculous stats like "Youngest player to score X amount of points/rebounds/steals/etc. on Christmas Day"... Is it really that big of a deal? Or is it just forced?

It’s only been a tradition since the 1940s

It really is kind of forced. It's the only thing on, but it's as if the CD games matter more with all of the meaningless stats.

I mean considering they try to give us big time matchups I would say it's a good tradition. But thats just me.

No worse than the NFL force feeding us the fricking Lions every Thanksgiving.

For the ratings it gets, the NBA as a whole, is the most over hyped and covered sport. You'd think it garnered season long NFL ratings the way it is pumped on ESPN.

Yeah it's big trash for sure. I'd rather watch little league Irish premier league. These games never end up being close and no upsets ever happen

But that's actually a tradition. It's basically the only time a national audience sees the Lions. It's not like they force us to watch them on SNF or something. And they're always the very first game when people are eating and not paying attention.

It fills the void for men that are bored outta their gourd as the day's events grow repetitive.

It allows for major sport betting lined action, on a holiday where the vast majority are off work and around a house with tvs.

It allows NBA an attempt to begin sway some Football junkies to the fact that soon their season will be over.

We’ve got another I hate the NBA poster.

Also, this isn’t as bad as the Lions/Bears Thanksgiving gameday every year.
