I dont think anyone is saying it's not a tradition. I think most are saying that ESPN just hypes it up waaaay too much and the games really don't matter any more than any of the other 81

Networks hype up everything they air. Thanksgiving day NFL games mean no more than other NFL games but they are treated like playoff games.

NFL is just far more universal as a tradition. I have no idea how each got started, but one feels like a legit tradition that most people at least feign some interest in ("family fun and football" posted on Instagram from a person who doesn't ever watch football, etc.) whereas the large majority of people wouldn't even associate Christmas with basketball.

I don't want them to stop it, I just don't think it's something well-connected with Christmas for most people like football is with Thanksgiving. So it's overhyped and forced, sure.

I miss bowl games on xmas day

I can remember watching KU with Glen Mason playing some one on Xmas day in Hawaii i believe.

Not sure why they got away from this, it beats being stuck watching silly xmas parades from Disney. At least i would have something to watch, rather than that crap with the OL.

The NBA has done Christmas day games every year since 1947. It's not like it's a recent thing.

The nba wasn't even popular until the 80s though. It's still very much so new money in comparison to the nfl and mlb.

It isn’t forced at all. Christmas Day usually doesn’t have a lot of sports, so good on the NBA for giving us all-day content.
