re: Is Matt Ryan a Hall of Fame quarterback?

Does Matt Ryan play defense/special teams? Manning was 9-10 in the playoffs with Indy.
Aaron Rodgers has been sacked 39 times in 595 playoff passing attempts and he is better in every single measure of quarterbacking than Brees.
But by all means try to make your asinine argument again.

Frank Gore makes it in before Ryan.

That's nice. Brees average AV is 14.2 and Ryan's is 13.8. And the gap will close with this season.

Lol
You melt so hard about the saints.

Brees has a higher passer rating in the postseason than Rodgers and has won just as many Super Bowls so I'd say you're wrong there chiefy

I knew you would bring that up. Brees didn’t start his first season. If you’re going to hold that against him, you’re going hold that against Brady, Favre, and numerous other players.
Also if you know anything about stats, you’d know the average can be misleading. The fact of the matter is you’d have to go back to 2003 to find a season in which Brees wasn’t a rated as a top 10 QB. Ryan has had numerous such seasons in which he’s not. Brees has had more seasons as a top 5 and top 10 QB.

quote:That's because it's much easier to pass the ball now vs the 1970s and 80s. Look at the greats in the 1970s. Their numbers are terrible compared to the #15-25 QBS today. Rules changes have made it far better for QBs today.
Not one retired QB above him all time in passing yards (he’s 10th all time) is excluded from the hall except Peyton who is a shoe-in. Top 5 all time in YPG.
He definitely has an argument.
At this stage, Ryan shouldn't sniff the HOF.

And that argument would be the same against Brees, no?
Important career numbers (keep in mind that Ryan is still in his prime and Brees is out of his)
Brees: 97.8 QB rating, 7.6 y/a, 5.3 td%, 2.4 int%
Ryan: 94.7 QB rating 7.5 y/a, 4.7 td%, 2.2 int%
Brees performs better at home than Ryan does at home, but Ryan performs better on the road than Brees does. Brees also has more of a decline in outdoor games than Ryan does. In Ryan’s MVP season he had a higher passer rating and a higher TD% than any season Brees has had. I tried finding stats for Brees MVP season but I’m not having any luck.
So yeah anyways, if Brees is a HoFer (which he is) then so is Ryan. If Ryan isn’t, then you can’t really consider Brees one either. And for what it’s worth, neither are in the top 3 of this generation of Quarterback (Rodgers, Manning, and Brady are ahead of both).
Ryan, Brees, Rivers, and Roethlisberger are 4-7 in this era of QB and if you look at those 4 categories, it’s pretty much splitting hairs between the 4 of them.

Once again doesn’t matter what you think. Brees will be a first ballot HOF. Ryan most likely wont be. People and the media’s perception of Brees is much higher than that of Ryan.

lol no
Brees is regarded as better than all of them

quote:As a Saints fan, I agree. The same for Brady. They're all benefitting from the NFL's conscious push for uptempo, more passing and more scoring. It's going to be difficult to discern what's a HOF QB from here on.

One thing for Brees though is nobody but him has had more than one 5000 yard season and he's had five. There are 6 others with just one season each.
quote:Rodgers is fading. He's not up to Brees' level. Manning was entirely mediocre in the playoffs.
...Brees...are 4-7 in this era of QB

You’re either a HoFer or you’re not. TO was a top 5 receiver in NFL history when he retired and he had to wait.

Brees has had 9 seasons of over 600 pass attempts, I believe no other NFL quarterback has more than 5. Rodgers has one season over 600. That’s why you can’t look at cumulative stats like that. YPA is what shows quality.
Rodgers has the higher QB rating, TD%, YPA and the lower INT%. Rodgers is the best of his generation, period. He really is the greatest QB of all time. No quarterback in any era has outperformed his peers like Rodgers has outperformed his. If the Patriots has selected him in the 2005 draft, you’re looking at the Wooden UCLA dynasty in the NFL.

Okay. Do completion percentages between the two now.

Most famous for a spectacular failure and nobody outside of Atlanta has given a shite about him for 10 years
Hall of dull uninspiring quarterbacks he is a lock for
Most people couldnt even tell you he was still playing if not for how terrible they are right now

Career completion percentages
Brees 67.5
Ryan 65.5
Rodgers 64.8
Brady 64.0
Manning 65.3
Rivers 64.5
Of those 6, Brees has the highest percentage of his yards from YAC and the lowest air yards on his throws. Brady is right behind him (above him?), in each category.
Draw your own conclusions.

178 career TD passes and 222 INT's for Joe. Yes, it was a different era but look at some of Joe's peers like Len Dawson, Bart Starr and Fran Tarkington, Roger Staubach and Bob Griese...none had numbers near as horrendous.
Y.A. Tittle served up more ints than Namath, yet magically gets ignored by this arbitrary standard. He was also below a 1:1 td to int ratio.
