Here's a link for my earlier claim. LINK

quote:

a staggering 43.1 per cent of people watching television in China at peak time on Saturday evening tuned in to CCTV to watch China play in their first Asian Cup final in 20 years. These figures mean that, on a nationwide scale, over 250 million people would have seen the game, which China lost 3-1 to Japan. This compares with audience highs of 24 million for the Final of Euro 2004 and substantially lower figures for other major European football league telecasts. Initial viewing figures from 24 major cities across China show that 18.5 per cent of the total population in China watched the whole game, dwarfing the figure of 14.4 per cent for the 2002 FIFA World Cup match between China and Brazil, which was, until last week's Asian Cup semi-final between China and Iran, the highest rated televised sports broadcast in China.

You are overrating Jordan like you have for all basketball players

A basketball game was the most watched individual sports game of all-time. Guess who was in it? Kobe and LeBron. Guess who wasn't? Any soccer player.

These idiots (not referring to you necessarily) don't understand that the most popular athletes are guys who transcend their sport. Ali transcend boxing. Tiger transcends golf (global game). David Beckham transcends sports - dude has his name movies, in McDonald's ads, in underwear ads, and was a feature part of his nation's Olympic Opening ceremony among numerous other non-soccer related exposure. Guys like Kobe and LeBron have 90% of their exposure outside of fans of their sport.

The most famous athletes always reach true fame when people who don't even watch their sport know who they are and what they do.

honestly

you're a moron.

I was in China, Shanghai specifically, with the Athlete's Foot people (master franchisee for the country) when he broke on the scene (had signe d with an NBA club). They had a size whatever shoe of his for merchandising purposes, he was in fact, in the offices constantly.

He became a big deal, and did do alot for basketball in Asia, no doubt.

I refer you to cock's unanswered posts.

600M chinese soccer fans
350M chinese paying soccer fans attend matches in the stadiums yearly

37M random chinese saw the biggest ever Chinese basketball game in history.

Only 6% of CHINESE soccer fans have to say Messi and/or Cristiano Ronaldo to equal the absolute maximum sum total of ALL RANDOM CHINESE BASKETBALL FOLLOWERS WHO HAVE EVER EXISTED.

It is quite safe to say your argument holds absolutely no water.

Link? Because that is flat out wrong. The 2006 World Cup was watched by over 700 million people worldwide and is widely regarded as being the #1 watched single sporting event in history

If that is true. Big deal a lot of Chineese people watched a basketball game. Doesn't change the fact in every corner of the world where there is little to no media they know who the best soccer player in the world is just by word of mouth.

there is nothing 'made up' as you say.

I have merely limited myself to an insane enhancing of the numbers which ought to bear out any possible position you may have, in order to show you and yours the folly of your assertions.

Should one of your children be literate, kindly bring them to the screen, as I would imagine you trust them, and they could explain this to you in local concepts which you are able to assimilate.

It's a team sport, not an individual sport. Do you mean to say 'single most watched televised sporting event of all-time'?
