You realize that the only people agreeing with you are two other soccertards. You are saying that Messy and Ronald McDonald are the most popular athletes in the world, when they aren't even the most known in their OWN SPORT! People who don't know a single damn thing about soccer know who David Beckham is. You and you're entire argument along with the retards backing you up are complete shite. I know it, everyone else without a soccer ball up their arse knows it, but you soccertards just don't get it and you are too damn ignorant to ease the forest through the trees.

Beckham is playing in MLS now. Messi and Ronaldo have passed him.

Are you really going to argue that I don't know soccer? Messi and Ronaldo are bigger than Beckham now. Maybe not to all of AMERICA, but we are talking about the world.

I know for a fact that Messi and Ronaldo are bigger in the soccer world. Your opinion, especially about soccer, is useless.

it's not top 5 in the US and tiger is still the biggest star. again, don't confuse sport popularity with individual athlete popularity.

You haven't said a logical thing yet, just a bunch of redneck, xenophobic crap.

in all fairness, he still gets quite a bit.

The crux of all this is the myopic 'my fat PBR belly' view of cock and his cronies.

The world has 7 billion inhabitants, of them, 300 million live in the United States of America.

How anyone can argue the OP's point with a confident air and straight face, or anything remotely similar, in detriment of either the Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo assertions, is beyond me.

not necessarily. sometimes an athlete becomes bigger than his sport. tiger became bigger than golf, especially after the accident.

But you can't stretch this to a global scale and get the same results.

FWIW, a lot of non-soccer folks said Messi or Ronaldo at the beginning of this thread, way back when.

If Messy and Old McDonald are soooooooooooooooooooo popular and sooooooooooooooo well known, then were is their $50 million a year endorsement from just ONE automaker?

Hell Usain Bolt is more famous than both of those guys. If you are going to say a soccer player is the most famous athlete in the world then at least frame your argument around the most popular/well-known one.

Wrong.

Back up your statements. We have, you haven't. At least give us some sort of evidence.

Bingo. Beckham is bigger than soccer. Ali was/wis bigger than Boxing. Magic Johnson is bigger than just basketball. Jordan is the same.

I'll leave this here: Tiger Woods gets more in endorsements than Messi and Ronaldo.. COMBINED

Why people are arguing with this guy and why people care about popularity is what is insane.

I'm sure Lady GaGa has more Twitter followers than Paul McCartney, but far more people know who Paul is than some fake tranny singer is.

Endorsements =/= Popularity

The kid in Africa (or South America or the Middle East) has no idea what Buick is.

Sure Tiger gets more money (or did) from a bunch of companies that promote to white people, but what does that mean to the WHOLE WORLD?

so?

the U.S. sets the tone for pop culture around the world.
in fact, pop culture is the U.S. only real big export.

is it possible for britney spears or michael jackson or lady gaga to be the biggest celebrity in the world? or star wars or dark knight or titanic to be the highest grossing film of all time?

yes.

so it's possible for a star in the U.S. to be the most popular athlete in the world. For a while it was Jordan, and that was back when basketball is a tenth of the popularity that it is now worldwide.

And celebrity isn't so much about being liked. It's about buzz. it's recognizabiility. it's controversy. it's being in the news. and being recognizable.

messi is a boring person. he has not scandal. he's the spokesperson for unicef? who gives a flying frick? what 12 year old kid talks about unicef commercials.

tiger woods i think has to be it.

then maybe beckham.

and we're not talking about sports fans. we're talking about fame.
because guess what frickos?

60 % of the world doesn't give a frick about sports AT ALL.
