Look up some of the hockey national champions. Denver has 8 titles. Minnesota-Duluth won back-to-back a few years ago.

Union has 2,200 students.

They beat Minnesota to win the 2014 NCAA Title.

They joined Division I in 1991.

Disagree. The decline was a result of Barmore retiring and the AD screwing up by only offering Mulkey 3 years. If she was hired then, Tech never would’ve missed a beat.

There was going to come a point where Tech couldn't afford Mulkey anymore, even if she did take that job. Some Power 5 school would have eventually shown up with a big check and lured her away. As mentioned earlier, Tech not being in a Power 5 league was eventually going to do them in. When schools with money started giving a shite about women's basketball, it was all over for Tech.

This is a big if but.... IF anyone could have kept Mulkey for a discount it would have been Tech.

I remember when the US women's Olympic team played tech in Ruston and I think the Lady Techster's lost by only a point. Pretty wild.

From 1976-1986, Maine went to the CWS 6 times. Way more random (but admittedly, not a title team).

Houston won 16 national titles in golf in a 30ish year span.

As a kid, I followed LSU women's T&F more than the men's team. I loved the fact that they were absolutely unbeatable for a good stretch of time.

Since you said any sport, how about ULM and their Water Ski team. I lost count how many times they have won a championship.

.
Same situation as Tech. Focused on a sport no one else was focusing on at a time before football money stepped up the effort across all P5 sports.

Once the TV contracts started to roll in, that money had to be invested somewhere. The Big West will still compete in baseball from time to time just because of the sheer amount of talent in California but it's not near the power it was even 15 years ago.

I guess I don’t understand the Cal St. Fullerton reference. A lot of schools in California had good baseball teams before LSU fans even know college baseball existed. Fullerton has just sustained their success better than other California schools (Long Beach St., Pepperdine, etc)

that wasn’t quite as random because the CWS then had regional regionals

Our former President F. Jay Taylor was big in getting the Lady Techsters off the ground & funded properly in the 70s/80's when women's basketball wasn't a big deal & we flourished under Sonja Hogg & Leon Barmore & the plan was to hand it over to Kim.

When our next President Dan Reneau didn't agree to just one more year on her contract during negotiations she left. That combined with P5 teams pouring more money into women's basketball at the that time overtaking us & that was all she wrote. Thanks Dan.
